- Cutting pipe to length and preparing pipe and fittings for installation by the pipelayer.
- Assisting pipelayer with installation as needed.
- Securing pipes, manholes and other materials and equipment to excavator before lowering into or removing from trench.
- Assists pipelayer in initial compaction in the trench taking care to maintain grade.
- Ensures that materials for pipelayer and other workers are ready as needed on the job site.
- Locating and hand-digging existing utility lines.
- Operate a variety of hand and power tools and equipment, motor vehicles and heavy equipment and perform related duties as assigned by Crew Lead.
- Works closely with other crew members using hand signals to coordinate work and ensure safety.
- Maintain orderliness, cleanliness and safety at jobsite.
- Follow Supervisor's instructions closely.
- Knowledge of materials, methods and the tools involved in utility construction.
- Strong coordination, time management, active listening and reasoning skills required.
- The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong and to work toward the solution of those issues.
- A minimum of 3 - 5 years of related skill, knowledge and experience in underground construction.
- Must be able to read, understand and apply information obtained from blueprints, surveys and job specifications.
- Understand and adhere to all safety regulations.
- Understand and adhere to the Personal Protection Equipment requirements.
- An unwavering focus on safety.
- Willingness to travel throughout Central and Western Minnesota, Northern Iowa and Eastern Dakotas.
- Walk, bend, kneel, lift, stretch and sit.
- Work outside in all weather conditions.
- Effectively handle lifting of various objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Regularly work extended | overtime hours, outdoors and in a variety of weather conditions at all project locations.
- Travel is required.
- Competitive pay range of $22 to $27 per hour, based on experience and background.
