Position Summary
This position is responsible for maintaining all types of electric utility vehicles and equipment for Duke Energy Corporation. Fleet maintenance operations may take place in garage or in field locations during various work schedules depending on business needs. In the absence of supervisor, technicians may be required to work with customers to schedule and make work assignments. Must be available for on call, after hours, and storm duties to meet customers’ needs. This position is responsible for performing maintenance on all types of vehicles/equipment which includes, but is not limited to passenger cars, pickup trucks, SUV’s, medium and heavy trucks, (with mounted hydraulic equipment) trailers & off-road equipment.

Job Duties
- Perform preventative maintenance inspections on all vehicles and equipment. Perform Federal DOT Inspections. Adhere to all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR). Perform required ANSI/OSHA inspections. Perform dielectric testing, load test/structural test on aerials and cranes.
- Perform basic hydraulic systems and components repairs, including basic repairs on inoperable aerial devices.
- Perform diagnostics and repairs on medium and heavy-duty trucks, (gas & diesel) light duty, tractors, forklifts, trailers and powered equipment, (plant/construction type equipment). Maintain the appropriate level of technical competence required to diagnose and repair vehicles/equipment
- Troubleshoot ABS systems, hydraulic brake and air brake systems, power take off units, transmissions, transfer cases, differential assemblies and 4x4 front drive axle assemblies.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair electronic engine controls, electric systems and components, cranking, lighting, charging and electronic transmission controls including hybrid vehicles. Diagnose, repair A/C systems and components.
- Two-year associate degree or certificate in auto, diesel, or heavy equipment mechanics from a vocational school
- In addition to required education above, two (2) years minimum of related experience
- In lieu of the required education, high school diploma AND three (3) years minimum of related experience
- Electric Utility Fleet Experience
- Basic Hydraulic Experience
- ASE Certifications
- AWS Welding Certifications
- Effective communication (both written and oral) and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrate ability to interact effectively with peers, customers and management
- Demonstrate ability to make sound decisions, exercising good judgement and setting priorities
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Experience with computer equipment, laptops, keyboard, tablets, etc.

Job Specific Requirements
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must be able to obtain "CDL Class A" driver's license with haz-mat/tank endorsement within a designated timeframe
- Own necessary tools or equipment to perform job duties
- Must be able to read and comprehend schematics and blueprints
- Must be able to re-condition hydraulic brakes on cars and light duty trucks
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Nuclear Unescorted Access/Security Clearance
- This position has a residency requirement. You must reside within 60 minutes of the assigned operations site. Relocation will be entirely at your own expense.
- Must be able to stand and walk on concrete surface for extended periods of time
- Must be able to work in garage environment with associated noise, fumes and dust and tolerate heights in aerial devices
- Must be able to carry at least 50 lbs a distance of at least 25 feet
- Capable of handling and lifting 50lbs or more repeatedly
- Must be able to lift and/or push at least 100lbs several times per shift
- Work requires frequent bending, climbing on/off equipment
- Flexible to work in tight areas
- Must be able to travel for training/work related events within Duke Energy's footprint (Midwest, Florida, Carolinas)
- Must be able to respond to emergency situations
- Onsite Mobility Classification – Work will be performed at a company facility
