Job Description
This is the first or entry craft level of the Substation Tech hierarchy. A Substation Technician Learner will assist a higher-level technician in activities associated substation construction and maintenance. Incumbents are expected to develop intermediate skills and the ability to work with greater independence.
Basic / Required Qualifications
Minimum Requirements for Transmission Substation Technician Learner
Must have a valid State Driver’s License and the ability to obtain a CDL Class A Driver’s License
High School diploma or equivalent
Minimum Requirements for Transmission Substation Technician I
Must have a valid State Driver’s License and the ability to obtain a CDL Class A Driver’s License.
High School diploma or equivalent and minimum 1 year of Transmission or Distribution substation maintenance or construction experience or equivalent job-related and educational experience.
Additional Preferred Qualifications

Develops positive working relationships and effective oral and written communication skills.
Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
Demonstrated ability to pass panel review by meeting or exceeding requirements for step progression.
Software skills including word process, email, spreadsheets etc.
Basic written and oral communication skills.
Must have a permanent residence approximately forty-five minutes from their base location.
Working Conditions
Demonstrated availability for after- hour’s work.
Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
Ability to work in a diverse environment with individuals from various socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
Must be capable of working on elevated work surfaces.
This position contains a weight restriction of 275 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading.
This position is based out on North and South Carolina
Specific Requirements
Must have a valid State Driver’s License and the ability to obtain a CDL Class A Driver’s License.
Ability to pass any required background check for NERC / CIP / Nuclear compliance.
Must pass appropriate level of Duke aptitude test.
