Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill established what was possibly the first residential summer school in America in 1877. The University has continued to provide a wide offering of annual summer academic opportunities to its students, the people of North Carolina, and other residents in this country and abroad. Currently, more than 50 departments or curricula of the College of Arts and Sciences and six professional schools in Academic Affairs offer a varied array of summer classes, including field courses, research courses, and graduate-level labs.
Position Summary
Working in close collaboration with the Director of Summer School, the Pre-College Programming Director, program directors and staff, marketing/communications teams, and other key partners and stakeholders, The Student and Learner Recruitment Coordinator should think holistically about the larger student journey and how to support student engagement, outcomes, and success.
This role will provide leadership and expertise in order to implement best practices and respond nimbly to emerging trends and will demonstrate Return on Investment (ROI) with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) including (but not limited to): website and messaging analytics, speed to lead, conversion rates, and student/client feedback. This role will also maintain ongoing statistics and generate regular assessment reports analyzing the metrics of the recruiting operation.
This role is responsible for inquiry management for Summer School and pre-college programs and will work closely with Summer School and other stakeholder on how to best address prospective learner inquiries, questions, and challenges.
This role will streamline internal processes and systems around student recruitment and support, moving Summer School and pre-college programs toward heightened efficiency, effectiveness, and student success. Part of this work will be managing Summer School’s use of a Customer Relationship Management System (CRM) to effectively track, segment, message to, convert, and support prospective learners.

- Developing, implementing, and overseeing the Summer School and pre-college programming recruitment strategies
- CRM administration
- Overseeing inquiry management (including standardized messaging and routing)
- Oversight of the Summer School’s and pre-college programming’s lead nurturing (including content marketing and written materials, as well as in-person, online, or hybrid events)
- Social media interactions and engagement
- Support for prospective learners across a variety of platforms including walk-in, web/email, phone, chat, and text messages
- Data collection, reporting, monitoring, and analysis
This role will track all marketing and recruitment success metrics for Summer School and pre-college programs. The Student and Learner Recruitment Coordinator will be expected to identify and resolve complex issues and problems related to recruiting and enrollment as they arise and will make decisions that will have direct outcomes on student experience, enrollment numbers, and program revenue.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Strong communications skills, including nuanced communications and the ability to respond to quickly developing situations

- Experience with higher education student recruitment and/or program administration (can include marketing, communications, recruitment, student support, program management, etc.)
