Organization Mission and Overview: The mission of Koinonia Community Solutions is to build bridges to the underserved in northeastern North Carolina through education, housing and economic empowerment initiatives.

Member Impact: Members will increase the capacity of site placement organizations by increasing program efficiency, enabling expansion, or increasing ability to sustain programs. Expected impact at this location includes:

· Member will conduct research, map community assets to strengthen organizational ability to meet participant resource needs in Pitt, Martin, Beaufort, Washington, Hyde and Tyrrell County

· Member will provide career assessment and coaching to assist program participants to meet career, educational and family support goals

· Member will develop collaborative relationships to expand organizational networks with local business, work force boards, industry, partner organizations, local government agencies and institutions of higher learning in Pitt, Martin and Beaufort County

· Member will design and implement service-oriented and career learning projects for youth

Member Service Position Summary:

Service activities vary across programs but all will fall under the allowable activities outlined below. Your site has identified the following categories as ones the member at this site will participate in.

(1) Strengthening volunteer management and recruitment, including:

(i) Enlisting, training, or coordinating volunteers;

(ii) Helping an organization develop an effective volunteer management system;

(iii) Organizing service days and other events in the community to increase citizen engagement;

(v) Assisting an organization in reaching out to individuals and communities of different backgrounds when encouraging volunteering to ensure that a breadth of experiences and expertise is represented in service activities

(2) Conducting outreach and securing resources in support of service activities that meet specific needs in the community. For our purposes, outreach means communication strategy - social media, newsletters (other than volunteer newsletters) and resources is defined as pre-approved revenue or in-kind resource generation.

· Design and distribute area-specific content for newsletter for stakeholders

· Devise social media content

· Collaborate with local organizations to develop and expand collaborative relationships

(3) Helping build the infrastructure of the sponsoring organization, including:

(i) Conducting research, mapping community assets, or gathering other information that will strengthen the sponsoring organization's ability to meet community needs;

(ii) Developing new programs or services in a sponsoring organization seeking to expand;

(iv) Automating organizational operations to improve efficiency and effectiveness;

(v) Initiating or expanding revenue-generating operations directly in support of service activities

(4) Developing collaborative relationships with other organizations working to achieve similar goals in the community, such as:

(i) Community organizations, including faith-based organizations;

(ii) Foundations; (iii) Local government agencies;

(iv) Institutions of higher education; and

(v) Local education agencies or organizations

(5) DIRECT SERVICE ACTIVITIES may include:

  • Tutoring adults
  • Outreach to children at community sites alongside local agency partners
  • Supporting out-of-school youth with high school equivalency attainment

· Conducting basic computer lessons or classes as needed

· Completing data entry as required to document services

· Tabling to provide agency information or materials or sharing resources in the community

Essential Functions: All basic duties that must be performed WITH or WITHOUT a reasonable accommodation:

The Adult Career Coach will provide specialized support to individuals with significant societal barriers to sustaining employment or those transitioning back into the workforce following incarceration or other periods of significant life disruption. This role focuses on guiding clients through career development, job search strategies, and professional growth, helping them to overcome barriers and achieve sustainable employment, including the following key responsibilities:

· Career Counseling: Conducting one-on-one sessions with clients, assessing skills, interests, and career goals, and providing personalized advice

· Job Search Support: Assisting clients in job search, application preparation, and facilitating connections with employers and resources

· Skill Development: Identifying skills gaps, recommending training, and organizing workshops on job-related skills

· Barrier Assessment: Evaluating and addressing barriers to employment and collaborating with local organizations for comprehensive support

· Resource Coordination: Connecting clients with community resources and maintaining a network of contacts with relevant organizations

· Monitoring and Reporting: Tracking client progress, preparing reports on program effectiveness and client outcomes

· Advocacy: Advocating for clients’ needs and raising awareness about the challenges faced by individuals reentering the workforce

Marginal Functions (secondary job responsibilities) of the position. The Marginal Functions are those activities that are seldom or intermittently performed by the member and/or are additional duties that are preferred:

· Advocacy: While important, advocacy is often less central to the day-to-day support provided compared to direct career counseling and job search support. It might be performed less frequently and is more about broadening impact rather than direct client support

· Monitoring and Reporting: This is essential for program evaluation and improvement but might be considered marginal relative to the direct, client-facing work of career counseling and job search support. The frequency and depth of reporting could vary based on program requirements

· Resource Coordination: While critical for providing comprehensive support, this function involves networking and maintaining contacts which might not be as frequent or central as direct client interactions but still important for overall program effectiveness

Required and Preferred Qualifications

Required:

1. Citizenship or permanent residency status (Green card) required

2. 17 years old or older required

3. High School or GED equivalent required; College degree preferred

4. Background checks: National Sex Offender check, state criminal check, FBI check required

5. Valid driver’s license

6. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

7. Passion for the nonprofit sector and commitment to the organization’s mission

Preferred:

8. Prior workforce development experience

9. Prior coaching or counseling experience

10. Prior nonprofit or community development experience

Commitment Required: Members are expected to serve 11 months. Fulltime members should expect to serve 40 hours per week, three-quarter time members 30-32 hours per week, and halftime members 22-25 hours per week throughout the service year.

Benefits: Fulltime (FT) members receive a $30,000 stipend divided by 11 months while in service. Three-quarter time (TQT) members receive a $23,000 stipend divided by 11 months while in service. Fulltime members who require health insurance to participate will be eligible for reimbursement up to $200 per month and may request childcare assistance from the NCLC, if applicable. Members receive Disaster Preparedness training and Mental Health First Aid certifications and ongoing professional development. Segal Education awards of $7395 are available to FT members who satisfactorily complete the required service hours. The monthly living allowance is only paid while a member is in service.
