About Us:

Duke's Grocery is a neighborhood pub and supper spot known for its great food and cold drinks, with locations in Dupont Circle, Foggy Bottom, and Navy Yard in Washington, D.C. We also have a Duke's Counter sister location in Woodley Park near the National Zoo.

Our mission is simple: create a fun, unpretentious, and laid-back spot where friends (you!) can come in anytime to enjoy a fulfilling meal, a tasty drink, and a great time. Tuck in, drink up, and enjoy!

We are currently gearing up to reopen our original Dupont location, which has been getting a facelift over the past year.

Assistant General Manager Position

At Duke’s Grocery, we’re on the hunt for hospitality professionals who take pride in creating not only an unforgettable dining experience but also a great place to work. We want someone who’s enthusiastic, quick on their feet, solution-oriented, an overcommunicator, and most importantly, a motivating leader. Responsibilities:

• Assist the General Manager in mentoring and empowering our amazing front and back of house staff.
• Oversee day-to-day restaurant operations and guest relations with a smile.
• Maintain smooth FOH & BOH operations to the company’s standards.
• Hold the team accountable while adhering to our operational procedures.
• Use financial indicators to measure and boost productivity.
• Assist in hiring, training, scheduling, and developing staff to meet team and business needs.
• Respond to all guest and staff communications/feedback promptly and effectively.
• Master the use of all necessary tools, utensils, equipment, and software (e.g., restaurant management software).

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a high-energy neighborhood restaurant 
• Flexible work schedule (including weekends for brunch, lunch, and dinner) and reliable transportation.
• Strong leadership and motivational skills.
• Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Financial savvy to analyze and interpret financial data.
• Proficiency with restaurant management software and other relevant tools.
• Knowledge of wine, beer, and spirits to impress our guests.
