TheMedical Assistant, Certified performs routine admi nistrative and patientcare supportive duties in a Health System medicalp ractice that assistmedical and/or nursing staff in the examination andtr eatment ofpatients and ensure the clinic/office runs smoothly.
Work Performed
Clinical responsibilities:The CMA takes medical histories and records vital signs, explainstreatment procedures to pati ents, and prepares patients for examinationsand procedures.Patient cares upport responsibilities may include assisting the medicaland nursingstaf f during examination and procedures, collecting andpreparing laboratory specimens, performing basiclaboratory test in theclinic/office, taking electrocardiograms, removing sutures/ staples,changing sterile and non-s terile dressings, promoting patient/familyunderstanding of the education al content and his/her involvement in theplan of care, and documenting i n the patient record.Other clinical support responsibilities includepati ents, andreferral scheduling; arranges for hospital admissions andlabora toryservices, updates and files patient medical records, fills outinsura nceforms, handles billing, bookkeeping to include receiving copays andco llections on account balances; correspondence, and ordering clinicaland clerical supplies and forms.
