What are the responsibilities and job description for the VAN SERVICES DRIVER position at Duke University?
Occupational Summary
This position is responsible for transportingmembers of the Duke community over specified distant points according toa set perimeterwithin 2.5 miles around the campus. This is night assignment. Dutiesinvolve the ability to operate the assigned vehicle in a safe, reliable,and professional manner while being courteous, patient, and helpful toall passengers.
Work Performed
Skills and knowledge of how to operate in a demand-response environmentand coordination with dispatch.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) :
- Abides by all safety and traffic regulations / laws as well as company policy / procedures; properly completes all required paperwork to include manifests, pre / post-inspection checks, accident reports, and other applicable forms / reports.
- Uses sound judgment in following dispatch instructions, being able to recognize, create, and follow logical sequences for pick-up and drop-off of passengers in an efficient manner.
- Attends training classes with successful completion; answers passenger questions politely and accurately, to include questions about service area, and eligibility requirements; ensures passengers' ride is comfortable and safe; provides assistance to individuals as needed; knows and abides by all state driver requirements; keeps current on theoperation of all service routes; safely operates vehicles to pick up and transport customers while adhering to van service perimeters and maintaining a pleasant and courteous manner completes familiarization with system and safety features; geography and roadways of service area; traffic rules, regulations and laws, and transfer points.
- Receives and transmits two-way radio messages involving accidents, incidents, emergencies, criminal activities, or other authorized Duke University business utilizing judgment and discretion to ensure customerand individuals are safely dropped at vehicle or destination.
- Performs vehicle operations at varying hours mostly evening.
- Will work outside regular business hoursas required by service demands; writes reports and completes formscidents, breakdowns and mechanical defects, as required at the end of theas required, may prepare detailed written reports concerning accidents inir shift.
- Operating and utilizing department radios and tablets for work orders isrequired.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein or as asked by management.

Anticipated Pay Range :
Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $18.00 to USD$22.42. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education / training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
