Occupational Summary:
The DukeLIFE (Lower Income, First-Generation Engagement) office is a unit in the Intellectual Community division of the Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE). The mission of DukeLIFE is to enhance the academic experiences of undergraduates who are lower-income and first-generation college students (1G/LI students). Its programming and initiatives provide students holistic support to promote their full participation in the university’s intellectual communities. The office also fosters socioeconomic inclusion at Duke by coordinating resources and support strategies with campus partners to meet the needs of the 1G/LI undergraduate community.

Job Summary: As a member of the DukeLIFE team, the person hired for this position will report to the assistant director of DukeLIFE. They will be responsible for developing support strategies to help 1G/LI students excel academically, strengthen their connections to faculty, and take full advantage of Duke’s curricular and co-curricular opportunities. The staff member will lead the planning for the office’s major programs and initiatives, such as the LIFE Peer Mentor program, Family Weekend Brunch, and Cording Ceremony, and contribute community-building programming to the ASCEND and Rubenstein Fellows cohorts.
Work Performed:
Program Implementation and Assessment (40%)
- Employ best practices, scholarly literature, and data-driven approaches in the design of support strategies for 1G/LI students
- Design, plan, and implement the LIFE Peer Mentors, a major university strategy for 1G/LI student support
- Establish collaborations with external and campus partners to provide community-building experiences relevant to the needs of the LIFE Peer Mentors cohort
- Independently execute the DukeLIFE signature programs, including Family Weekend events and commencement activities
- Manage the DukeLIFE Loaner Laptop program, a collaboration with OIT that serves students across all 4-years at Duke
- Write year-end reports on programming initiatives and contribute the stewardship reports based on assessment data and student feedback
Logistics and Planning (30%)
- Plan community building and leadership development programming for various DukeLIFE student communities, including the peer mentors & mentees, ASCEND cohort, Rubenstein fellows, and student organizations
- Co-coordinate office’s programming schedule
- Manage and support the upkeep of the DukeLIFE Study Space in Perkins Library
Student Development (20%)
- Design and facilitate training and resources that effectively prepare the LIFE Peer Mentors for their roles
- Respond to insight flags and coordinate support for LIFE peer mentors that improve mentees' academic performance and campus navigation
- Provide individual support to 1G/LI undergrads to help them meet their goals at Duke
- Assist with hiring and training student workers. Supervise them in the coordination of the office’s programs.
Stakeholder Relations and Campus Partnerships (10%)
- Maintain relationships and share information with units in OUE and the Division of Student Affairs as needed
- Serve on committees to advance the work of the office and OUE

Required Qualifications
Education:
Work requires knowledge of academic program planning, development, and implementation generally acquired through completing a bachelor’s degree program.
Experience:
Work requires three years of experience in program administration or involving academic, instructional, or counseling activities to acquire the skills necessary to plan, coordinate and implement a variety of program activities and events. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Anticipated Pay Range:
Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $ 48,000.00 to USD $76,400.00.
