Occupational Summary
The Equity Officer (EO) will be approved by ARPA-H and will help perform key duties throughout the NITRO (Novel Innovations for Tissue Regeneration in Osteoarthritis) project. This position is full-time, 100% grant-funded, and dedicated to the project.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the equity portion of a federally funded, multi-center regenerative medicine program focused on osteoarthritis. This position will oversee aspects of clinical need, access to therapy, balanced enrolments in translational and clinical research, and working together with other NITRO teams in building an equity and access framework for treating osteoarthritis. The role includes working with others on the team in the development of appropriate clinical and commercialization strategies. This role will also serve as the primary liaison between the project team, stakeholders, and the funding agency in the equity and access area.
The EO will ensure that all performers follow the FDA’s guidance titled “Diversity Plans to Improve Enrollment of Participants from Underrepresented Racial and Ethnic Populations in Clinical Trials” and that clinical trial populations reflect the same US population proportions and severity as those affected by OA.
In NITRO Phase 2, the EO will analyze the data from 8 demographic-specific listening sessions, prepare the “Road Map to Equity” report, finalize the Insurance Action Plan (with CMMI, CMS, and HHS engagement). co-manage and publish the proceedings of the Equity Symposium, ensure that the prior KPIs are enforced, and implement the Clinical Trial Go/No-go Demographic Requirements, as described below.
The EO will develop rollout strategies and triangulate stakeholders with the help of ARPA-H’s XIR/EIR network, and the EO will also pursue all available approaches to ensure equity throughout study designs and Clinical Trials across all TA’s
Work Performed
Develop Equity KPIs and Analyze Data from Listening Sessions
• Refine and maintain KPIs
• Conduct qualitative and quantitative data analysis from 7-8 demographic listening sessions
• Prepare the "Road Map to Equity" report integrating feedback
Finalize the Insurance Action Plan
• Liaise with CMMI, CMS, HHS, and Duke Margolis Center for Health Policy and Review disparate disease burdens and policy proposals for OA
• Develop strategies for access and reimbursement considerations to “ensure” equity
Co-Manage Equity Symposium
• Symposium planning and implementation in collaboration with Duke REACH and UCLA
Enforce KPIs in Clinical Trials
• Develop rollout strategies for community engagement
• Develop strategies targeting overlooked communities
• Work with clinical trial management to monitor KPI adherence
• Navigate the regulatory landscape with oversight (IRB and/or FDA)
• Adjust recruitment plans based on demographic data
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education
An advanced degree is required (i.e., MPH, MBA, MPP, MSW, etc.).
Experience
Minimum of 5 years of directly related experience with progressive responsibility in faculty development and/or diversity work in academia, not-for-profit, or business. Development of faculty or staff programs is strongly preferred.
Skills
Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication and presentation skills. Ability to focus on strategic goals and implement appropriate interventions.
