Position Description

The Building Attendant works under the direction of the Facility Manager.  Responsibilities include general building and program supervision.  Work is performed in accordance with a prescribed program and established procedures with some opportunity for the exercise of independent judgment.


Essential Responsibilities

  • The Building Attendant supervises all public areas inside and outside the Recreation Center, including classes and special events. Also occasional custodial and maintenance duties will be required.
  • Areas to check:
    • Gym and track
    • Main lobby
    • Lower hallways
    • Program rooms
    • Locker rooms, bathrooms
    • Group Exercise Room
    • Stairwells
    • Parking lot
  • Set ups and take downs, as needed.
  • Raise or lower gym baskets and center curtain as needed.
  • Assist maintenance department when possible in salting and/or shoveling the front sidewalk during snowy or icy conditions.
  • Supervises rentals, assists custodial staff with set-ups and takedowns when available.
  • Serves as liaison between Park District and rental group. Reports any problems to the Office Manager or Facility Manager.
  • Helps with supervision of gym and track.
    • Assists at the Front Desk providing patrons with information and giving tours.
  • Oversees deliveries by checking and signing for all delivered items, and then dispersing the supplies to the appropriate area or staff as needed.
  • Be a helping hand for all employees and patrons.
  • Responsible for complying with all safety and loss prevention policies.
  • Must ensure that all responsibilities and use of equipment is performed in a safe, prudent manner.
  • Must always utilize required Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Inform supervisor of any unsafe conditions or hazardous work procedures. Correct any unsafe conditions, if possible, and instruct co-workers on safety procedures.
  • Assists other Park District employees, when needed.
  • Staff shirts are to worn at all times.


Communication & Customer Service

  • Develops and maintains positive and effective working relationship with coworkers and to promote and maintain high morale and enthusiasm.
  • Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Communicates matters of importance in a timely manner.
  • Makes recommendations to management for improvements and efficiencies.
  • Employee represents the Dundee Township Park District in a professional manner.


Safety & Risk Management

  • Maintains a working knowledge of all general and departmental-specific safety rules.
  • Uses material handling equipment or staff assistance when lifting and/or moving objects 50 pounds or heavier.
  • Reports any work-related injuries to supervisor promptly.
  • Immediately reports all accidents and unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
  • Attends all required safety program and in-service education meetings.
  • Corrects unsafe conditions, if possible, alerts co-workers to potential unsafe conditions and/or reports them to supervisor.
  • Instructs co-workers, when necessary, on safety procedures or precautions.


Qualifications

At least one year experience working with the public of all ages.  Able to give direction without hesitation and gain the respect of patrons and fellow employees so that they will follow his/her advice.  Able to maintain cool and calm in tense situations, capable of handling more than one thing at a time. 


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Computer aptitude required.
  • Knowledge and skills in technology, or the ability to learn.
  • Ability to learn additional software and systems required for business transactions.
  • Reading, writing, speaking and understanding English language.
  • Possess good problem solving skills and has capacity to act rationally and calmly in high stress and/or emergencies.
  • Ability to work a varied schedule including some nights and weekends as required.
  • Ability to pay meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to execute the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.


Hours Standards

  • The Building Attendant works Monday – Friday 4:30pm- 10pm.
