About this Position:
Dunwoody Christian School is seeking an energetic, creative, Godly part-time Athletic Director to lead our school's athletic program. The successful candidate will have a passion for athletics and a commitment to excellence, while ensuring the program is conducted in alignment with the school's mission and values. The Athletic Director will be responsible for managing all aspects of the athletic program for Middle School grades and junior athletics in the Elementary School, and will work closely with students, coaches, parents, and school administrators.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in athletics, possess strong organizational skills, and be able to work effectively with students, coaches, and parents. We believe that the role of the Athletic Director is to demonstrate, through leadership and lifestyle, his or her personal relationship with Jesus Christ, a consistent reflection of Godly character, and a heart to meet the needs of young people.
Athletic Director Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for the DCS athletic program
- Work with Head of School to build strategy for year 3 of the DCS athletic program (i.e. selecting sports programs that DCS can offer successfully considering the size of student population & location/available facilities)
- Report to and routinely meet with the head of school
- Coordinate scheduling for all athletic events and facilities
- Coordinate and oversee DCS field day events, communicating with parents and DCS staff, secure parent volunteers
- Communicate routinely with DCS parents and staff
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise coaches and athletic staff
- Develop and implement a comprehensive physical education (P.E.) curriculum that aligns with the school's mission and vision
- Build relationships with and coordinate with athletic associations (i.e. GAPPS, etc.)
- Build relationship with church staff, oversee requests for space for afterschool athletics use and P.E. use (e.g. use of gym time, etc)
- Ensure that all athletic equipment and inventory are maintained in good condition and properly stored in a way that reflects good stewardship
- Monitor the academic performance of student-athletes, while promoting their physical, mental, and spiritual development
- Foster a positive and inclusive culture within the athletic program, while promoting teamwork and sportsmanship
- Work with school administration to develop and manage the athletic department budget
- Represent the school in athletic events and conferences
- Attend all DCS open house events during admissions season, as able with other athletics commitments
- Attend routine DCS staff meetings
- Drive student athletics to practices and events as needed in school vehicle (valid state driver's license required)
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills
- Uphold the mission and values of the school

- Respect professional ethics that require confidentiality concerning the sharing of information about children, parents, or staff
- Know the procedures for dealing with emergency situations in the classroom and school. Conduct required emergency safety drills in coordination with school leadership.
- Inform the administration in a timely manner if unable to fulfill any assigned duty.
- Deal directly and frankly with the school administration in an earnest effort to resolve differences of opinion when they exist.
- Recognize the need for good public relations. Represent the school in a favorable and professional manner to the school’s constituency and the general public.
- Maintain clean, attractive, and well-ordered athletic facilities.
- Participate in the end-of-year school closing process, such as the inventorying of equipment.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, preferably in sports management, education, or related field
- Prefer at least 2 years of experience working in athletics or coaching at the middle school level or above
- Strong relationships with athletic organizations (i.e. GAPPS, etc.)
- Knowledge of athletic association timelines, requirements, and rules for participation
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Knowledge of athletic policies, procedures, and regulations
- Ability to work well with students, coaches, and parents
- Ability to form partnerships with parents, coaches, staff, athletic associations, and other stakeholders
- Availability to work evenings and weekends during the athletic season, as needed
- An enthusiastic and articulate advocate for the school’s mission and vision
- Ability to maintain confidentiality pertaining to school/student matter
- Strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and active in an evangelical church
- Ability to maintain confidentiality pertaining to school/student matters
- Candidates must pass a background check prior to hire date
- Valid state driver's license required, ability to drive a 15-passenger shuttle min-bus or van
- Other reasonable duties, as assigned
Physical Job Duties
- Able to sit, walk, talk, hear, use hands on a keyboard.
- Able to stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, crawl, reach, and stretch.
- May occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
Schedule and Compensation:
- Part-time schedule (Estimated at 10 hours per week; additional hours (up to 20) possible for a visionary candidate capable of expanding and elevating the athletics program)
- Compensation is negotiable and will be commensurate with experience and work schedule (i.e. 10 hours/week position may range from $12,000 - $18,000 per year depending on experience and degree)
