Description

Dunwoody College of Technology currently has the need for an Instructor within its Electrical Construction & Maintenance major housed in the Construction Sciences & Building Technology department.

Dunwoody’s Electrical Construction & Maintenance program provides students the essential information required to start an entry-level position in the electrical industry. Themes prevalent throughout the curriculum include industry standards and best practices, knowledge of electronics and electricity, operation and troubleshooting of equipment, knowledge of the National Electrical code, wiring methods and materials in residential, commercial, and industrial electrical installations, power systems, motors and control systems, and safety.

The instructor will be responsible for delivering and maintaining curriculum in line with current industry standards and practices, advising students, developing curriculum, and building and maintaining relationships with industry. The successful candidate will have the ability to disseminate the technical information required to the students along with applying the candidate’s own industry experiences to reinforce the prevalent theories in the program.

 

MAJOR OBJECTIVE

This position is responsible for initiating the teaching and learning process with a focus on continuous improvement in an environment in which students can accomplish the learning objectives of the course of instruction. Results in students able to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, ethics, and use of proper tools to meet industry and professional business standards.

  • Develops and upgrades lesson material, training aids and maintains equipment within assigned course of instruction.
  • Assists in the recruitment, advising, and placement of learners.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


  • All Electrical Construction & Maintenance faculty must meet the minimum standards required by the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry outlined in Electrical Procedures and Training, Section 3801.3865: 10-11 available at 3801.3865 - MN Administrative Rules:

A. Hold a current license issued by the Minnesota Board of Electricity as a Class A master electrician or a Class A journeyworker electrician; OR,

B. Hold a current license issued by an electrical licensing authority in the state where the school is located if the state has a reciprocal agreement with the Minnesota Board of Electricity for either master or journeyworker licenses; OR,

C. Have a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering and have 4,000 hours of experience performing electrical work; OR,

D. Have an associate of applied science degree in electrical construction or maintenance, or both, and have 6,000 hours of experience performing electrical work; OR,

E. Have a two-year diploma for completing a two-year electrical construction program or maintenance program, or both, and have 6,000 hours of experience performing electrical work; OR

F. For courses limited to specific technical or general education areas, other than general wiring methods or the application of electrical codes, be a technical expert based on special training or certification or accreditation in the specific knowledge or skill area.

  • Subp. 3.Recent initial experience:

Except for instructors of courses in subpart 2, item F, a minimum of 2,000 hours of the required instructor experience must have been in the five years prior to the application for program approval or the instructor's employment date, whichever is later, and consist of either:

A. A minimum of 2,000 hours of experience performing electrical work; OR,

B. (1) up to 1,500 hours of experience credit for instruction based on a formula in which one hour of instruction equals two hours of experience credit; plus (2) a sufficient number of hours of experience performing electrical work to total 2,000 hours.
 

Salary : $80,000 - $84,000
