POSITION SUMMARY :
This position provides a full range of employeeengagement and relation services to the University community, includingplanning and implementation of various employee appreciation and recognitionevents, consultation and support to management and employees on interpretationof University policies and procedures, review of applicable employment andlabor law, providing objective problem-solving and decision-making assistanceas well as coaching and conflict resolution services.
Undergeneral direction of the Director of Employee and Labor Relations, work will bereviewed through meetings, reports, analysis, and observation of results. Aflexible work schedule is required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Plans and implements various employeeappreciation and recognition events; collaborates with University colleagues,as appropriate, to design new or enhance existing programs; oversees logisticsof managing events and programs from design to final implementation; produces events and programs that provide meaningfulexperiences for employees.
Researches and provides tools and resources forpositive employee engagement and effective performance management.
Provides assistance to the Staff AdvisoryCouncil for planning and implementing events.
Serves as lead HR communicationsadministrator; prepares and sends out communications and newsletters aboutplanned engagement activities, events, and programs; serves as the lead forreviewing and updating the HR and related website and social media; assistsDirector of Benefits with engaging faculty and staff on wellness initiatives.
Coaches and counsels managers andemployees; assists with clarifying goals and objectives; serves as an objectiveproblem solver; assists with facilitating communications and fosteringeffective working relationships with employees at all levels, balancingemployee advocacy with stewardship of University's needs, goals and values;collaborates with managers and employees to improve work relationships, buildmorale, and increase productivity and retention
Serves as a strategic first point ofcontact for managers seeking advice on employee relations matters; consultswith managers to develop workplace and job expectations and to address performanceissues of employees; provides counsel related to documenting, coaching andtraining; assists with preparing and reviewing formal corrective actionsdocuments, including performance improvement plans; provides strategies forresolving complex and critical employment matters.
Preparesclearly articulated documents related to various disciplinary matters,including but not limited to incident reports, formal corrective actiondocuments / plans and investigations reports.
Identifies employee relations training fordepartments and individual coaching needs; develops, implements and deliverstraining.
Reviews and recommends amendments to policiesand procedures based on business trends.
Completes special projects and related dutiesas assigned.
REQUIREMENTS :
Minimum qualifications :
Bachelor'sdegree in Human Resources or closely related field of study from an accreditedinstitution and 3-5 years of experience in Human Resources.
Preferred qualifications :
Priorexperience in higher education setting and with employee engagement, coaching,employee relations, conflict resolution and related training as well as PHR,SHRM-CP certification is highly desirable and preferred.
Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination ofexperience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilitiesrequired to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is notlimited to, the following :
Working knowledge of state andfederal laws and regulations relating to employment, employee relations,affirmative action / equal employment opportunity, employee development andrelated human resources functions
Prior experience with designing andimplementing meaningful employee appreciation and recognition events
Excellent organizational and projectmanagement skills
Previous experience managing employeecommunications and websites
Ability to becollaborative and encourage collaboration
Ability to be attentiveto details and utilize peer review practices
Excellent written and public speaking communication skillswith the ability to produce clear, well organized, and concise analyticalreports and documents /
Ability to listen objectively to employee concerns andcomplaints and plan an appropriate, recommended course of action
Skill to analyze complex problems and apply original andinnovative approaches and techniques to solve difficult problems with multiplevariables
Ability to prepare and deliver relevant and engaging grouptraining sessions /
Experience with mediation facilitation and / or coaching isdesirable
Ability to maintain confidentialityin highly sensitive matters
Demonstrated ability to prioritizeown work, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, shift priorities depending onbusiness demands, and take ownership of programs and events
Ability to be people-focused andpositive with a customer service-orientation
Strong computer skills includingMicrosoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Ability and willingness to work aflexible schedule and attend some events planned during the evenings and on theweekends
