What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Automation Engineer position at Durin?
Durin - Shaping the Future of Mining
At Durin, we believe that the availability of raw materials should not hinder human advancement. We are pioneering innovative technologies to ensure this, with the aim of becoming the backbone of the global supply chain.
About Us
Durin is at the forefront of developing and operating automated drill rigs to expedite mineral exploration.
Modern advancements, from smartphones to skyscrapers, originate as ore nestled in the earth. However, the process of establishing a mine is intricate; it requires geologists to explore, analyze, and survey, which consumes substantial time and resources. Given the billion-dollar investment needed to launch a mine today, the significance of precise data cannot be overstated. This is achieved through extensive drilling to extract core samples in search of valued minerals.
Despite being crucial to a $2 trillion industry, drilling technology has remained stagnant for decades. Our mission is to revolutionize this field through the mass-production of intelligent drilling rigs featuring automated controls and real-time data channels, enhancing safety, accuracy, and efficiency. This is just the beginning.
Your Role in Automation
As a Lead Automation Engineer at Durin, you will play a pivotal role in designing and deploying the essential control systems that drive next-generation drilling rigs. You will spearhead the automation of drilling operations, incorporating sensors and actuators for real-time data monitoring, all while ensuring the rigs operate safely and reliably in challenging conditions.
Note : Previous experience in mining or drilling is not a prerequisite for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement advanced PLC-based control systems for autonomous drilling and related tasks (including material handling and core sample retrieval).
- Choose and integrate sensors (e.g., pressure, force, temperature, position) and actuators for real-time data collection and precise motion control, ensuring durability in rugged environments.
- Establish fail-safe electrical circuits and safety-rated software aimed at protecting operators, equipment, and the surrounding environment.
- Design user-friendly HMI interfaces and SCADA systems to facilitate the monitoring, diagnostics, and control of sophisticated machinery.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, robotics, and software teams to align control solutions with overall rig design and manufacturing objectives.
- Rapidly prototype, troubleshoot, and validate control solutions in both laboratory and severe field conditions.
