The Indirect Tax Analyst II will be responsible for the preparation and review of indirect tax compliance including sales and use tax, real and personal property tax, and business licenses. They will also be responsible for ensuring the timeliness, accuracy and completeness of filings, as well as maintenance of all necessary supporting documentation and tax calendar. The role will also work on preparation of use tax self-assessment for various company expenditures. This includes review of relevant regulations and calculations and accounting for tax. They will ensure completeness and maintenance of the necessary supporting documentation, maintain indirect tax engines ensuring completeness and accuracy of collection, computation and reporting of indirect tax obligations.
The Indirect Tax Analyst II will also assist management in leading audits and in compiling audit support to be provided to state and local jurisdictions and external auditors, respond to notices and inquiries from taxing authorities for routine sales tax matters, and conduct research of U.S. indirect (sales / use, personal property tax, real property tax, business licenses) tax regulations with respect to the impact on the business. Lastly, this role will provide technical advice and support to business partners with respect to indirect tax inquiries, prepare and support special projects, and assist in company reporting process including account reconciliation and supporting variations. This role will report to the Tax Supervisor and will also liaison with the Corporate Accounting group as required.
Responsibilities of the Indirect Tax Analyst II include, but are not limited to :
- Prepare and review sales tax returns and property tax returns
- Prepare monthly reconciliations of various sales tax accounts on the general ledger
- Reconcile thousands of sales tax transactions for correct rate and taxable amount monthly
- Assist in researching and gathering information for various state sales taxes.
- Maintain business licenses
- Manage exemption and resale certificates of customers as well as those provided to vendors
- Maintain tax automation software to ensure compliance accuracy
- Provide taxability guidance to other business groups within DXP
- Prepare transaction tax refund claims
- Assist in maintaining legislative materials by reviewing, interpreting, and implementing new or revised sales tax laws
- Gather information for sales tax and property tax audits by various taxation authorities
- Communicate and negotiate with tax authorities over tax payment issues through letter writing
- Work with AP to identify use tax issues and taxability of various invoiced items from vendors
- Perform other related duties and projects as business needs require at direction of management
- Ability to handle large volumes of data
- Maintain tax calendar, property tax calendar, and other informational resources
- Work with third party advisors
