TECHNICIAN PROGRESSION PLAN
The Golden Wrench Program
*Your Path to Becoming a Top-Tier Technician!*
At Dyer Automotive, we're all about growing talent from within! That’s why we’ve created the Golden Wrench Program, a 24-month journey designed to take entry-level technicians and transform them into highly skilled pros. We're looking for team members who show the right attitude and a hunger to grow. Throughout the program, you'll dive into everything from basic auto mechanics to advanced diagnostics and repairs.
Months 1-6 – Pay: $14/hour
- Split your day between working on the express rack and shadowing an experienced technician.
- Complete Fundamental Training (GM stores) by month 9.
- Finish Emerging Issues Training (GM stores) by month 12.
- Learn to follow wiring diagrams, diagnostic flow charts, and use diagnostic equipment like a pro.
- Time to schedule your first ASE test: G1 Auto Maintenance & Light Repair.
- Begin fundamentals and basic manufacturer training.
Months 6-9 – Pay: $16/hour
- Get a toolbox and tools on loan (worth $2,000)—yours to keep upon successful completion!
- Complete 100% of your Fundamental and Emerging Issues Training.
- Focus areas: brakes, steering & suspension diagnosis, wheel alignments, and vibration analysis.
- Next ASE test goals: A5 Brakes & A4 Steering and Suspension.
Months 9-12 – Pay: $18/hour (Flat Rate)
- Work side by side with a technician full-time.
- Learn about HVAC systems (including earning your EPA 609 certification), electrical systems, infotainment, and engine repairs.
- Master proper torquing, cleaning, and prepping for repairs.
- ASE test goals: A6 Electrical & Electronics, A7 HVAC, A1 Engine Repair.
Months 12-18 – Pay: $20/hour (Flat Rate)
- Work independently with senior techs reviewing your diagnostics.
- Complete all required manufacturer training.
- Focus on driveline repairs, differential setups, clutch operation, and performance.
- ASE test goals: A3 Manual Drive Train, A8 Engine Performance (A2 Automatic Transmission & A9 Diesel Engine are encouraged).
Months 18-24 – Pay: $24/hour (Flat Rate upon completion)
- Continue manufacturer training and work independently.
- You’ll no longer need to review all diagnostics with a senior technician.
- Work on comeback repairs with a senior tech to ensure proper diagnosis and fixes.
- Upon completion, you’ll be awarded the Golden Wrench Award, celebrating your hard work and dedication. Plus, the tool loan? It’s yours to keep!
