Hi, I’m Dennis, looking for a Summer 2024 Lean Manufacturing Intern. Who Am I? In my role as a Lean Specialist within the manufacturing industry, I've found that my knack for diving into details and untangling complex processes really comes in handy. I'm all about spotting those small inefficiencies that can make a big difference once they're ironed out. I'm always on the lookout for ways to improve things – it's just part of who I am. I'm pretty adaptable, which helps because the manufacturing world is always changing, and you've got to roll with the punches. Patience is key in this job; you don't see the fruits of your labor overnight, but when you do, it's incredibly rewarding. I’m always eager to learn and stay updated – there’s always something new around the corner in this field, and I love that. What Do We Do? Business Unit: Operations Management We specialize in processing bar and coil materials, transforming raw metal into precise formats needed for a wide range of manufacturing applications. Our team is dedicated to ensuring each step of the process, from uncoiling and straightening to cutting and finishing, meets the highest standards of quality and efficiency. Your Role as an Intern As a Lean Intern in our company, your day-to-day activities will be diverse and engaging, offering a rich learning experience. You'll start by shadowing our experienced team members to understand our core processes, particularly how we handle bar and coil materials. Part of your daily routine will involve analyzing these processes to identify potential areas of waste or inefficiency. You'll also get hands-on experience with lean tools and methodologies, like 5S and Kaizen, applying them to real-world scenarios. · Participate in team meetings where you'll contribute ideas for process improvements and help in planning and implementing lean projects. · Data collection and analysis will be a key part of your role, as it's crucial for measuring the impact of our lean initiatives. · Additionally, you'll assist in creating documentation and reports that track our progress and success in lean implementation. · Analyzing current production processes to identify inefficiencies and waste · Work closely with Lean management team to implement Kaizen and other continuous improvement methodologies · Participate in training sessions and workshops to deepen their understanding of lean principles and tools Our Value Proposition This role will allow you to develop and build expertise in the following core skills: · Adaptability – You will track, prioritize, and drive multiple concurrent projects to success, while working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. · Problem Solving – Develop your critical thinking and analytical skills to create innovative ideas and approaches to optimize manufacturing processes to positively impact bottom line financial performance. · Active Learner – Ability and appetite to learn quickly is critical as you expand your knowledge and build your skill sets. · Communication – Create effective verbal and written communications in and across project teams. Organize and present results to small and large audiences throughout the organization. · Collaboration – You will work directly with mentors and operators, requiring strong partnership skills. What Do We Require? You must be: · Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program majoring in an Industrial Engineering with a minimum 3.0 GPA. · Experienced in: Data Analysis, Project Management, Technical Writing, and Microsoft Office. · Willing and able to work on-site at our Clearwater, FL location. · US Citizen or US Green Card Holder. Pay Range Hourly rates are based on: 1 – Program of study; 2 – Degree type (i.e., Bachelor’s, Master’s); 3 – Progression in degree (i.e., 1st year, 2nd year, etc.). Interns enrolled in an Engineering-related bachelor’s degree program will be paid $19-$23 per hour. Commuting/Housing Assistance (If Eligible) Interns who must commute to work from outside the immediate Clearwater, FL area (over 50 miles one-way), will be paid a one-time lump sum payment of $2,400 (less applicable taxes) as excessive commute allowance. Interns who choose to temporarily relocate from outside the immediate Clearwater, FL area (moving over 50 miles one-way), will be paid a one-time lump sum payment of $4,800 (less applicable taxes) as a housing allowance. If applicable, this payment would be made during the first payroll cycle, which would be three or four weeks following the internship start date.
