Position Title : Social Development Director
Classification : Exempt
Reports To : Center Director (CD)
Position Description
Summary
Reports to the Center Director and directly supervises the Residential, Counseling and Recreation programs. Responsible for the management of Social Development functions, in compliance with government, corporate and management directives.
Essential Functions
1. Plans, coordinates, and manages the administrative and programmatic activities of the department
2. Provides staff training, evaluates staff performance, and implements personnel changes as approved by the Center Director. Provides group and individual staff training to develop greater staff proficiency in providing guidance and counseling to students
3. Assists in the preparation of the departmental budget; monitors / controls expenditures; reviews changes to budget authorizations
4. Develops new and revises policies and procedures affecting the Career Success department; coordinates with other departments to ensure attainment of overall objectives
5. Establishes, implements, and supervises control procedures to maximize student living standards; coordinates student participation
6. Assists in the development of community linkages and volunteer activities
7. Oversees the scheduling and operation of center-sponsored recreation activities and programs
8. Oversees Counseling of students as needed.
9. Oversees the staff schedule 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for dorm and recreation coverage
10. Controls documentation and good maintenance of records; ensures that specified documents are turned over to each shift; compiles status reports for areas of responsibility.
11. Inspects dormitory areas; recommends facility maintenance when needed
12. Provides support / guidance to staff in dealing with behavior of students and resolving individual or group situations.
13. Reports to the safety and security manager any problems that have been identified immediately
14. Instructs students in specific on- and off-center activities
15. Oversees a variety of well-planned recreation / avocation activities including arts and crafts, water safety programs, individual and team sports, special interest programs, and others
16. Develops and distributes weekly, monthly, and annual recreation / avocation plans and scheduled activities
17. Controls use of equipment and supplies; makes minor repairs and recommends purchases
18. Coordinates the student Reason / Assessment / Plan (RAP) and recreation orientation
19. Models, mentors and monitors the positive normative culture of the center.
20. Acts as a responsible custodian for assigned center property
21. Reports violations of ethical behavior
22. Suggests opportunities for continuous operational improvement and reduction of waste
23. Identifies and reports environmental health and safety concerns
24. Supervises all department activities through effective planning, staff training, time management, scheduling and review
25. Manages departments resources and budget
26. Screens potential new hires and makes recommendations for hire

Requirements Required Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in behavioral science or related field and four years of related experience; two must be in a managerial capacity.
Two years of experience working with youth
Directly related experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Must meet basic Job Corps PRH education and experience requirements Certifications / Competencies
Computer proficiency
Minimum Eligibility Qualifications
If position requires driving, a valid driver’s license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record is required.
I-9 documentation required to verify authorization to work in the United States
Ability to pass pre-employment drug test and background check.
