Quality Control Manager

Position: Quality Control Manager – Structural Steel Fabrication

Position Summary:
Responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, monitoring, and executing activities to ensure the quality of structural steel fabrication. Operates with urgency and precision to meet established quality standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements. Collaborates with the company-wide QC team to define quality procedures, conduct improvement studies, and implement quality initiatives.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Oversee the quality function at the assigned plant.
• Manage the established quality program to ensure fabricated steel meets customer specifications, delivery schedules, and fit requirements.
• Collaborate with Production and Project Management to enforce quality procedures and maintain accurate project documentation.
• Administer and maintain compliance with the AISC certification program, ensuring all employees understand and follow AISC standards, and the facility is prepared for and passes AISC audits.
• Supervise QC Inspectors, provide training, conduct performance evaluations, and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Analyze and resolve quality-related issues in collaboration with employees and owners' engineers.
• Coordinate inspections with DOT Inspectors, ensuring all required documentation is completed and filed promptly.
• Maintain professional relationships with customer engineers and DOT representatives.
• Participate in regular production meetings to stay updated on project progress.
• Manage the welder certification program, ensuring welders meet owner requirements and all records are maintained.
• Review project specifications and conduct prefabrication meetings to align with company quality policies, customer requirements, DOT regulations, and industry standards.
• Supervise hold point status, review inspection reports, and maintain updated logs on project inspection progress.
• Oversee the tool calibration program.
• Perform inspections on welds, dimensions, materials, fasteners, and coatings.
• Address and resolve customer concerns promptly.
• Serve as a member of the Plant Leadership Team, contributing to planning and operations.
• Manage internal and outsourced non-destructive testing programs.
• Oversee the internal Magnetic Particle Testing program.
• Maintain and update the Quality Control Manual regularly.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles.
• Strong computer proficiency, including spreadsheets, word processing, and statistical analysis.
• Ability to interpret blueprints and shop drawings.
• Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
• Strong problem-solving abilities with the capacity to develop effective solutions.
• Ability to interact professionally with diverse individuals and situations.
• Willingness to travel occasionally within the United States by car or air.
• Expertise in structural steel fabrication, coatings, application processes, and non-destructive testing methods.
• Exceptional time management and organizational skills.

Educational Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Quality Management, Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field.
• Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification or ability to obtain certification within six months of hire.
• Minimum of five years of experience leading a quality control function in a heavy manufacturing environment involving welding.
• NACE or SSPC Level I paint certification, or ability to obtain certification within six months of hire.
• Experience in bridge fabrication preferred.
• UT/MT/VT Level II certifications preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year

Salary : $110,000 - $130,000
