e&e is seeking a Database Administrator for a hybrid contract opportunity in Harrisburg, PA!
The Database Administrator provides technical support for Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL database environments, supporting the full system life cycle. This role involves maintaining and managing database structures, troubleshooting issues, implementing monitoring procedures, and collaborating with IT personnel and third-party vendors. Operating at a moderate level of complexity, this position requires a high level of proficiency and works under general supervision as part of a team supporting multiple database technologies.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain existing databases by analyzing storage requirements, access time, input/output frequencies, and resolving issues encountered by applications/systems analysts.
- Perform database design tasks, including analysis, logical data model review, and physical database design.
- Manage database structure, backup and recovery, data propagation (replication), and performance monitoring/tuning.
- Research, recommend, and implement new technologies, skills, and methods to enhance database management.
- Define table attributes, primary, and alternate keys for multiple databases.
- Install and upgrade database software to optimize performance.
- Monitor database activity and file usage to ensure efficiency.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot database issues, providing solutions or workarounds.
- Implement monitoring procedures to maximize database availability and performance.
- Collaborate with IT staff and third-party vendors for database installation, configuration, and support.
- Work closely with the infrastructure administration team to define and request database servers.
- Act as a Database Administrator for projects of varying complexity.
- Provide guidance and manage project implementation while supporting functional users and vendors.
- Lead and participate in infrastructure and database configurations, changes, and upgrades.
- Ensure systems and databases are developed and implemented according to published standards.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, with 2-5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of experience, training, and abilities.
- Working knowledge and application of database concepts.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to debug and determine root causes.
- Hands-on experience with a Database Management System (DBMS).
- Intermediate experience in physical data modeling, database design principles, and programming.
- Ability to analyze moderately complex information and derive conclusions.
- Proven capability to learn and support new hardware, software, and operating systems while implementing innovative business solutions.
- Effective communication skills for articulating technical subjects.
- Understanding data strategy development and associated policies.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
