The Environmental Health and Safety Manager is responsible for developing and delivering systems that drive safe operating practices. This role is responsible for cultivating a productive, healthy, and accident-free workplace by establishing and promoting safety policies and coordinating with managers and employees to perform work in compliance with regulatory Health, Safety, and Environmental laws and industry standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Coordinates work programs and directs use of equipment and material.
  • Assures compliance with federal, state and local regulatory safety standards / codes. Develops accident / loss prevention methods, procedures and programs.
  • Conducts safety and health audits and reviews as needed. Work with property insurance carriers to develop and maintain business continuity operations.
  • Responsible for all aspects of environmental compliance as it pertains to air quality (air permits), hazardous waste (RCRA), solid waste, industrial waste water, storm water, septic, drinking water, bulk storage tanks including SPCC Plans, and Emergency Planning & Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA).
  • Oversee compliance with all EPA, FDEP, and local environmental regulations
  • Coordinate and meet the requirements for all DOT regulations regarding the shipping of waste streams.
  • Maintain all aspects of chemical control through the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) Management Program, chemical review procedure, and the facilities approved chemical list.
  • Develops implements and updates safety / industrial hygiene procedures. Evaluates and controls work elements to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational injuries and illnesses.
  • Coordinates risk management functions, assists with worker’s compensation program and return to work program.
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver safety compliance training.
  • All other duties as assigned

OTHER DUTIES MAY INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO :

  • Perform or assist with any operations, as required or directed, to maintain work flow or respond to production requirements.
  • Job functions may include special assignments as directed by the department Vice President. Participation may be required with various committees and may attend trade shows and seminars. Some travel may be required.
  • MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :

  • Must have a Bachelors degree in industrial safety, engineering or industrial hygiene.
  • Must have detailed knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Thorough knowledge of safety and industrial hygiene programs and procedures. Practical working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, SARA III, ADA, Worker’s Compensation, and other related regulations.
  • Maintain Certifications and Training including annual RCRA Hazardous Waste Management and Department of Transportation triennial training for handling hazardous materials, OSHA Hazardous Waste Operation and Emergency Response training for Incident Commander and other agency required training.
  • Require at least 7 years of practical experience, require 3 years of experience in a managerial capacity.
  • Specialized knowledge in the safety field requiring independent judgment and complex problem solving ability. Experiences in Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement and project management skills are desired.
  • Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist desired, but not required
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Lift / Push / Pull- Exerting up to 40 pounds of force Occasionally and / or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Climbing- Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and / or hands and arms.
  • Stooping- Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
  • Kneeling- Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
  • Crouching / Crawling / Reaching - Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine. Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Standing- Particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Walking- Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as : operating machines such as lathes, drill presses, power saws and mills where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach; performing mechanical tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as carpenters, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc. The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment
  • The worker is subject to hazards : Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
  • Will work in an office setting with consistent exposure to factory floor and company grounds, would be required to comply with all safety and environmental rules, regulations and guidelines including PPE requirements.
  • Could be exposed to dust, noise or hazardous materials. May be required to handle material up to 50 pounds in weight. Required to prioritize and process documents on a regular basis with consistent exposure to a computer.
