Position Overview:
We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Direct Care Staff to join our team in providing round-the-clock care and support to youth in our STRTP facility. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with youth, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to promoting a positive and nurturing environment.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct care and supervision to 6-12 year old boys residing in the STRTP facility.
- Implement individualized treatment plans under the guidance of licensed therapists and program supervisors.
- Support youth in daily activities, including meal times, recreational activities, and educational pursuits.
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment by enforcing program rules and boundaries.
- Foster positive relationships with residents and serve as a role model for healthy behavior and decision-making.
- Document observations and progress notes accurately and in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to ensure the holistic well-being of each resident.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities as required.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
- Understanding of trauma-informed care principles and a commitment to providing culturally competent services.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Must pass background checks and meet all state licensing requirements for direct care staff working with minors.
Must be able to demonstrate all of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Knowledge and understanding of the needs of children served in a children’s residential setting.
- Skills and ability to engage and develop a rapport with children who have diverse backgrounds.
- Skills and ability to provide consistency and behavioral limits through relationship-based interventions.
- Skills to communicate effectively with the ability to solve problems in a collaborative manner.
Must meet at least ONE of the following qualifications:
1. Have obtained a Bachelor of Arts or Sciences Degree.
2. Have obtained a valid Child Development Teaching Permit.
3. Have completed 12 semester units of Early Childhood Education, Adolescent Development, Foster and Kinship Care Education, or Psychology and have completed at least 100 hours of on-the-job experience working with children. (The 100 hours of on-the-job experience may be completed after starting employment at the facility. Pending completion of the 100 hours, staff shall not be counted in the staff to child ratio and shall not be left unsupervised with children.)
4. Have a valid certificate as an Alcohol Counselor, Drug Counselor or Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and have completed at least 100 hours of on-the-job experience working with children. (The 100 hours of on-the-job experience may be completed after starting employment at the facility. Pending completion of the 100 hours, staff shall not be counted in the staff to child ratio and shall not be left unsupervised with children.)
5. Have a valid vocational training certificate, credential, or documentation demonstrating that the individual is a trade journeyperson who instructs children in vocational skills and have at least 100 hours of experience working with children or adults as a mentor, athletic coach, teacher, vocational coach, tutor, counselor, caregiver within a residential setting, or other relevant experience as determined by the department.
6. Previously been employed as a full time staff or served as a volunteer at a group home, short-term residential therapeutic program, or substance abuse treatment program for at least one year.
7. Have relevant life experience in the child welfare, mental health or juvenile justice systems as a consumer, mentor, or caregiver, or life experience with children who have experienced high levels of trauma, or other relevant experience as determined by the department.
Must be at least 21 years of age.

Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour
