Overview
This Outreach Specialist coordinates and delivers the bookmobile to the outlying community for remote library services and programming within the District service area. The specialist also coordinates the movement of library items for use at library kiosks within the service area. The specialist provides customer service to patrons including processing new library cards, check-in & check-out of materials, collection of money for fees and other duties as assigned.
Requirements:Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Drive the bookmobile following scheduled routes and one-time events and arrange daily safety procedures
- Coordinate operation of library self-service kiosks (i.e. Rec Centers)
- Collaborate with nonprofits for increased participation
- Participate in content creation for media outlets and the PR Librarian as assigned
- Track and record outreach participation and use surveys to capture data
- Maintain online calendars with the bookmobile and kiosk schedules
- Support staff in outreach service procedures and providing standard library services during outreach events, including bookmobile operations
- Assist patrons with standard library services
- Assist patrons with library computer navigation, troubleshooting library device hardware issues, and introducing the app for e-books and e-audio books
- Complete monthly check-in meeting with supervisor.
Competency:
Skilled with driving a custom coach on mountain roads and the interstate
Follow outreach standard procedures and communicate operational issues
Adept with computer software navigation and customer service
Ability to understand District policies and Colorado library laws.
Supervisory responsibilities: NONE
Work Environment: Regular interaction with other staff, the public and community partners. Regular work operating the bookmobile year round. Occasional work outdoors conducting library services. Operates district vehicles, phones, computers and other standard office equipment.
Hours of Work: Hourly Full-Time
The weekly schedule requires flexibility to accommodate some evening and weekend outreach events as committed.
Required education and experience: Bachelor’s Degree, equivalent work experience or completion of apprenticeship. One year of customer service work experience. Experience driving large sized, non-standard vehicles.
Additional eligibility qualifications:
Current drivers license and vehicle insurance, valid in the State of Colorado and an acceptable driving record which meets District standards.

Physical demands: Light physical effort in carrying and shelving books. Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping and reaching. Must be able to access and navigate all neighborhoods of the District service area. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. Must be able to manage responsibilities in typical Colorado weather conditions.
Non-essential functions:
- Perform library tasks during assigned customer service desk rotations
- Maintain library shelf materials and keep public areas tidy
- Support staff with opening and closing procedures for both the library branch and outreach vehicles.
