Parents as Teachers: Parent Educator
Classification: Non-Exempt
Qualifications:
Minimum of 60 college credit hours
Minimum of two years experience working with young children
Parents as Teachers Certification or eligibility for certification obtained during employment
Early Childhood certification such as early childhood special education, elementary education, and/or five years experience in a preschool setting preferred
Reports to (Daily): Parents as Teachers Coordinator and Director of Early Learning
Position Overview: The School District of Washington is seeking parents as teacher educators responsible for planning and conducting personal visits to families. These individuals assist families with community resources, early childhood development, and early detection of developmental delays. Additionally, parent educators often provide the first impression of the District to families served, advancing the mission of the District and influencing a positive culture centered on learning. Ideal candidates demonstrate the ability to form safe relationships with families served, effective oral and written communication skills, high level organizational skills, and the ability to work with multiple stakeholder groups.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Perform personal visits to families in their home to provide resources and developmental information.
- Build and maintain secure relationships with families as well as maintaining professional relationships with colleagues, community partners, and patrons.
- Utilize effective communication with students establishing secure teacher-student relationships within the boundaries required to create and maintain a positive culture.
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with timelines including individual student records, screening records, content area reports, and other records as required and/or assigned.
- Observe, promote, and support professional development activities, responsibilities, and ethical practices related to the scope of this position.
- Cooperate in partnerships and collaborative efforts to support student learning and progress toward identified outcomes.
- Regular and reliable attendance is necessary in order to perform the functions of this position.
- Perform associated roles as required for building operations and to respond in the event of an emergency.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or required for District operations.
Other Related Responsibilities:
- Maintains appropriate student records and timelines.
- Attend meetings and workshops necessary for District operations and to enhance knowledge in areas of general responsibility.
- Maintains confidential nature of all school related material.
- Attend events outside of the regular school day designed to bring the public into the school, serve on a committee, plan appropriate instruction, and attend required meetings associated with the role of “teacher”.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Part-time positions available with pro-rated annual paid leave award and defined pension benefit contribution. Starting hourly rate established by the Board of Education with a limit of step 11 as the entry point on the rate schedule as defined by District policy. Entry rate ranges $18.76 to $22.63 per hour depending on experience. The person in this position can expect to work approximately 28 hours per week over the duration of the academic school year.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the supervisor annually.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND VISUAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit. Additionally, the employee may occasionally be required to push or lift up to 50 lbs as necessary for the safety and well-being of others. Lastly, this job requires the employee to have the vision ability to read handwritten or typed materials, and meet multiple demands from several people while interacting with other staff and the public.
