Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Dog Trainer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in animal handling and training, with a focus on creating positive learning experiences for dogs and their owners. This role requires patience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a variety of dog breeds and temperaments.
Duties
- Help develop and implement training programs tailored to individual dogs and their owners.
- Conduct group classes and one-on-one training sessions, focusing on obedience, behavior modification, and socialization.
- Assess each dog's behavior and progress, providing feedback to owners on training techniques and best practices.
- Utilize positive reinforcement methods to encourage desired behaviors in dogs.
- Maintain a safe and clean training environment, ensuring all equipment is in good condition.
- Provide guidance on general care, grooming, and health maintenance for dogs.
- Collaborate with veterinary professionals when necessary to address behavioral issues or health concerns.
- Keep detailed records of each dog's training progress and communicate updates with pet owners.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in positive dog training or a related field such as animal handling or veterinary assistance.
- Knowledge of various dog breeds, behaviors, and training techniques. We do not use prong collars, e-collars or punitive training techniques.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting as required for handling larger breeds or equipment.
- Experience in kennel management is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with dog owners and provide clear instructions.
- Certification from a recognized dog training program is preferred but not mandatory.
- A genuine love for animals and commitment to their well-being.
