- Assists school-based staff with improving techniques of instruction and improving overall student achievement.
- Work in conjunction with other district departments to facilitate and support literacy development and implementation across all programs.
- Work in conjunction with other district departments to ensure implementation of equitable classroom practices to improve literacy outcomes for all students.
- Serves as a central office contact and liaison to keep parents, administrators and community citizens informed about literacy programs in the school system.
- Ensures district-level personnel, teachers, and principals are familiar with any changes regarding literacy.
- Evaluates literacy programs in the system and develops strategies for implementation and increasing achievement.
- Meets regularly with district personnel, curriculum facilitators, and principals to monitor and support literacy implementation.
- Provides instructional strategies and various tools to aid the instructional process.
- Coordinates and provides a variety of district-wide professional development opportunities.
- Assists with the selection of instructional materials
- Provides support to teachers in their classrooms through coaching and modeling

Summary: The Coordinator of Literacy supports the successful implementation, consistency, and equity of the district’s Literacy programs and guides school-level personnel in ensuring that instruction is aligned with the Louisiana Standards. They are responsible for interpreting changes to the curriculum and informing personnel of the implications of those changes. The Coordinator evaluates the effectiveness of literacy instructional materials, methods, and programs and helps to develop strategies for improvement.

Essential Functions/Qualifications/Requirements:
Education and Experience:
Must possess a Master’s degree or higher. Minimum of five (5) years successful teaching experience with certification in World Language. Must have the Ability to guide and train teachers in effective instructional techniques and strategies. Must have the ability to develop and present ideas effectively, orally and in written form.
