Summary :
This is skilled mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of automotive transportation and other light vehicles operated by the School Board.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Services and repairs automobiles, buses, trucks and other motorized equipment to include servicing, preventive maintenance, and component repair or overhaul.
- Repairs and replaces broken springs, stop signals, door opening mechanisms, and minor body and fender repairs, etc.
- Performs such tasks as grinding valves, setting tappets, adjusting and lining brakes, repairing universal joints, steering gears and hydraulic brake systems, etc.
- Performs road test on vehicles after repair.
- Performs basic diagnostic testing as necessary.
- Performs legible documentation of repairs on work orders.
- Makes service calls to disabled vehicles in the field.

Essential Functions / Qualifications / Requirements :
Education and Experience :
Completion of a standard high school, trade or vocational school course(s); or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools, and equipment of the trade. Considerable experience in repairing automotive, medium truck, or school bus equipment in a general garage or automotive service station. Skill in the operation of simple equipment employed in motor repairs. Considerable knowledge of standard practices and equipment of the automotive mechanic trade; knowledge of the principles of operation of gasoline and diesel engines and of mechanical repairs on buses and vehicles.
Must have sufficient automotive mechanical experience to pass the required maintenance test, and must have a valid drivers' license. Valid, or ability to obtain, Louisiana CDL license preferred.
