An East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) Heavy Transport Operator operates a five or more-axle tractor/trailer combination with or without crane, a tractor tank trailer with auxiliary equipment, or a flatbed truck, with crane, having an approximate 20,000-pound capacity.
Typical duties may include:
• Operating and rigging a five or more axle tractor/trailer combination with or without crane in a safe manner.
• Operating heavy construction equipment for the purpose of loading and unloading the equipment on the trailer for moving.
• Operating and rigging a flatbed truck with a mounted crane to transport heavy steel plates including loading and unloading in a safe manner.
• Operating a tractor tank trailer and its auxiliary equipment to transport sludge or other equipment from one location to another.
• Taking samples of material being transported as required.
• Operating a transfer truck to transport large loads of clear fill, spoils, or other construction materials.
• Directing and assisting in not only loading and unloading but also in arranging in lashing heavy loads to ensure proper balance and security.
• Maintaining loads with appropriate weight limitations.
• Complying with state and federal rules and regulations regarding the operation of the assigned vehicles.
The salary range is $8,335 per month increasing to $8,752, $9,190, and $9,650 after 12, 24, and 36 months, respectively.

Must possess a valid California Class A driver's license including the operation of air brake system and manual transmission and must have a satisfactory driving record; must submit employment history of any commercial driving experience over the prior ten (10) years. Certain positions may require endorsements for tanker and hazardous materials.
4. Ability to pass federally mandated, pre-employment and continuing random drug testing is a condition of employment. Must possess physical characteristics to perform the critical and important duties of the job, including sufficient strength to lift and carry 90-pound sacks of concrete mix and to maneuver, with the proper equipment, pipes and fittings weighing over 200 pounds, heavy steel plates weighing approximately 5,000 pounds, heavy hose connections, and other heavy materials.
5. Must be willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and to work weekends and overtime as needed.

2. Candidates must achieve a passing score on each test part in order to advance to the next step in the selection process.
3. All qualified applications and supplemental responses will be competitively evaluated. A limited number of candidates presenting the qualifications most relevant to this position will be invited to continue in the selection process, which will include a performance test. Meeting minimum qualifications does not guarantee continuing in the selection process.
4. The performance test will include a pre-trip inspection, skills tests, and a road test operating a 10-wheel dump truck with attached equipment trailer. Rating criteria will be consistent with DMV Class A standards for all parts of the test. The test will also evaluate competency in the operation of a transfer truck. The performance test is tentatively scheduled to be held in late April 2025.
5. Successful candidates will be placed on the hiring list, based on rank, for further consideration to fill the current regular vacancy, as well as others occurring over the next 12 to 24 months.
6. The probation period for this position is 12 months. For those holding civil service status the probation period is 6 months.

Salary : $100,020 - $115,800
