SUMMARY
The Oka’ Institute is seeking a Data Manager with strong data engineering skills to support projects
focused on water research, land stewardship, water planning and policy, and sustainable communities.
This position is responsible for building and managing data pipelines, ensuring data quality, and
designing tools and processes for analyzing and visualizing environmental and community-based data.
The ideal candidate will have experience with data infrastructure, QA/QC practices, and dashboard
development. They will work with researchers and project leads to ensure data is well-organized,
accessible, and actionable.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Design and maintain data workflows and pipelines that support multiple projects and data
sources.
• Develop and enforce data quality control standards to ensure accuracy, consistency, and
integrity.
• Manage and update internal data catalogs and documentation to support collaboration and
knowledge sharing.
• Build and maintain dashboards and reports using Microsoft Power BI or similar tools to visualize
trends and support decision-making.
• Collaborate with project leads to design data collection strategies and support field teams in
gathering high-quality data.
• Assist with data integration across systems, including spreadsheets, databases, and web-based
data sources.
• Support data-related needs across Oka’s focus areas by translating raw data into usable formats
and visuals.
• Maintain good data security and confidentiality practices, particularly when working with
sensitive environmental or community data.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Required:
o Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering,
Environmental Science, or a related field.
o Experience with data wrangling, structuring datasets, and visualization tools like
Microsoft Power BI or Tableau.
o Strong understanding of data quality assurance practices and data documentation.
• Preferred:
o Master’s degree or Ph.D in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental
Science, or a related field.
o Familiarity with tools like SQL, Python, or R for scripting and automation.
o Background in environmental, water resource, or community-focused data projects.
o Experience supporting cross-functional teams with data infrastructure and reporting.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Ability to design practical and scalable data systems and processes.
• Strong communication skills for collaborating with non-technical stakeholders.
• Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple projects at once.
