East Coast Towing is made up of three related companies, East Coast Towing, East Coast Heavy Haul and East Coast Fleet Service with a dedicated and growing team of 55 skilled professionals spread across the greater Raleigh area. We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to support our growing workforce and enhance our company culture.
Position Overview:
The Human Resources Manager is responsible for managing all HR functions for a dispersed and diverse workforce. This role will focus on employee relations, performance management, compliance, training and development, recruitment, payroll and benefits administration and is a critical leader throughout the company. The ideal candidate will have a hands-on approach, excellent communication skills, the ability to build strong relationships with employees at all levels, and the skill and experience to be a trusted counsel for the General Manager and CEO.
Key Responsibilities:
- Employee Relations:
- Serve as a point of contact for employee inquiries and concerns, fostering an open-door policy.
- Address employee grievances and mediate conflicts while ensuring compliance with company policies and labor laws.
- Promote a positive work environment through employee engagement initiatives.
2. Performance Management:
- Provide guidance, training and mentorship to supervisors and managers.
- Continue to develop and implement performance appraisal systems that align with company goals.
- Lead the development of performance improvement plans for performance-related issues.
3. Training and Development:
- Help identify training needs and coordinate training programs to enhance employee skills and knowledge.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training initiatives.
4. Compliance and Policy Management:
- Ensure compliance with labor laws, health and safety regulations, and company policies.
- Update and maintain the employee handbook and HR policies as needed.
5. Recruitment and Onboarding:
- Develop and implement effective recruitment strategies to attract qualified candidates.
- Conduct interviews, reference checks, and coordinate hiring processes.
- Manage the onboarding process for new employees, ensuring a smooth transition into the company.
- Ensure the development and use of initial employee qualification records.
6. Benefits Administration:
- Manage employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans and leave policies.
- Provide information to employees regarding benefits and assist with enrollment and inquiries.
7. Payroll:
- Collect department inputs to develop and run payroll, weekly.
8. Data Management and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate employee records and HR databases.
- Prepare regular reports on HR metrics, such as turnover rates, recruitment progress, and employee satisfaction.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a human resources role, preferably within a blue-collar environment.
- Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience with blue-collar work force.
- Experience training and mentoring supervisors and managers
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with HRIS systems, with a preference for experience with Gusto
- Experience with Google Workspace (Docs, Slides, Sheets) and Gmail/Calendar
- Experience with Talent & Recruiting services (Indeed, Greenhouse, etc.)
Preferred Skills:
- Certification in HR (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, etc.) is a plus.
