The Sharon Public Schools is seeking a 1:1 instructional assistant for a student with physical disabilities.
The successful candidate will have experience with students with disabilities.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Physical support of student throughout the day (ie repositioning, transfers from wheelchair to alternate seating, pushing the wheelchair throughout the day)
- Transferring student to and from the van each day
- In class support academically and socially if needed
- Toileting and other self-care tasks for the student is required
Due to the nature of this position and the required responsibilities, it is classified as a Specialized Program Instructional Assistant. Salary is commensurate with experience in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement Specialized IA pay scale.
This is a Full-Time Position and follows the Sharon Public School Calendar.

Job Description
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum high school diploma, (two years post-high school education, Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred)
REPORT TO: Building Principal/ Building Special Education Administrator
General Description: To assist teachers in providing students with a nurturing, supportive and collaborative environment where curriculum and instruction are aligned to standards and the needs of each child. Responsibilities will vary according to the school, students, and program /classroom where the instructional assistant is assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Practice ethical and professional standards and maintain strict standards of student and family confidentiality.
- Become familiar with student IEP, including but not limited to: social/emotional, activities of daily living, and/or behavioral needs.
- Assist with specific student supports, either as individual or small groups in the implementation of educational and/or IEP goals and benchmarks.
- Demonstrate the ability to work with diverse learning styles.
- Reinforce the principles of social interaction programs by modeling positive behavior.
- Provide support services in all environments of the school setting under the guidance of the lead special education teacher, related service providers, academic and behavioral interventionists, and the building principal.
- Provide behavioral support including but not limited to, student-specific accommodations, and implementation of behavior support plan as applicable.
- Report any issues directly to the classroom teacher and/or the Special Education Teacher as applicable.
- Implement/provide the special education teacher and general education teachers accommodations and modifications to student lessons.
- May assist a substitute assigned to the classroom when a teacher is absent or attending meetings, as possible and appropriate.
- Follow IEP accommodations as directed by a Special Education Teacher.
- Attend Professional Development as assigned.
- Assist/accompany students with leaving and entering the building (including to and from their mode of transportation).
- Performs other duties as assigned by building administration.
- Modifies curriculum and/or curriculum materials as needed for inclusion opportunities with the Lead Teacher for student success.
- Maintaining a student notebook in a neat and orderly manner as applicable.
- Record accurate data on skills and/or behaviors as directed, when applicable
- Work with students on the generalization and maintenance of skills.
- Data collection on targeted skills, as needed.
- Some programs include an additional hour per day for duties that may include but are not limited to data collection.
