SPECIAL EDUCATION
LONG-TERM SUBSTITUTE
Qualifications :
- Minimum of 60 semester hours from a regionally accredited college or university
- Eligibility to obtain a Daily Substitute Permit from the Michigan Department of Education (required)
- State of Michigan Special Education Teaching Certificate (SM endorsement required, SE endorsement preferred)
- Special Education experience (preferred)
- Knowledge of and accuracy in completing IEPs, PLAAFP statements, measurable goals and objectives, and documentation of progress toward goals and objectives (preferred)
- Ability to work in a team planning structure
- Ability to utilize and integrate technology in instructional practices
- Ability to teach academic, organizational, and social strategies to students to facilitate success
- Ability to be enthusiastic, flexible, and work cooperatively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators
- Ability to motivate and inspire students
- Belief that all children can learn and acceptance of differences in students
- Willingness and commitment to include equity, social justice, and inclusion in all practices
- Ability to transform instruction through the creative use of technology
- Knowledge of instructional practices for varied learning styles and individual student needs
- Excellent organization and communication skills (written, verbal, and listening skills)
- Experience teaching elementary school students
- Successful classroom management strategies and skills
- Ability to abide by all district policies and procedures
- Ability to demonstrate competencies specified in Michigan Special Education Rules and Regulations
- Experience in utilizing a variety of assessments to inform teaching
- Ability to develop and implement positive behavior support plans
- Appreciation for diversity and a desire to assist our students in becoming cross-culturally competent
- Strong background in using assessment and data to inform instruction and document student progress
