The East Greenwich School Department seeks a dynamic leader who can operate at a strategic and tactical level. The successful candidate must have demonstrated success in designing and implementing systems that support the learning and work environment of faculty, staff, and students. Under the supervision of the Principal, the Assistant Principal will provide leadership and supervision in administering the educational, facilities-related, and student-management programs of East Greenwich High School in support of our collective Vision of a Graduate. The Assistant Principal will adhere to East Greenwich School Committee policies, administrative procedures, rules and regulations, and applicable laws.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
School Leadership & Culture
Foster a safe, inclusive, and vibrant school culture that supports student learning and well-being.
Promote and model professional growth, research-based instructional strategies, and innovation in teaching and learning.
Lead and support faculty and staff to ensure alignment with the school’s vision, goals, and policies.
Develop initiatives that enhance positive school climate and student engagement.
Student Support & Discipline
Implement and monitor a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to address academic and behavioral needs.
Manage student behavior, enforce school policies, and oversee disciplinary procedures, including documentation and intervention.
Investigate and address bullying, risk, and threat assessments in collaboration with school personnel, law enforcement, and outside organizations.
Communicate and collaborate with students, families, and staff regarding academic and disciplinary matters to promote student success.
Instructional Leadership & Assessment
Supervise and evaluate teachers and support staff using the Rhode Island Evaluation Model.
Conduct learning walks and support curriculum review and implementation.
Serves on and facilitates School Improvement Team work sessions in support of closing achievement gaps and meeting MTSS targets.
Monitor school-wide and individual student attendance data and implement interventions as needed.
Student Services & Compliance
Attend and support 504 eligibility and review meetings, assisting in plan development based on student, parent, teacher, and provider input.
Ensure compliance with state and district policies, including record-keeping, student attendance, and reporting requirements.
Human Resources & Operations
Co-manage recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and personnel matters in collaboration with district leadership.
Organize and oversee staff performance evaluations.
Assist in developing and managing the school’s annual budget.
Oversee the use of school facilities and supervise maintenance and safety protocols, including emergency drills (fire, lockdown, etc.).
Collaboration & Community Engagement
Engage with the district administration to support seamless articulation between schools and grade levels.
Foster open and timely communication among students, families, faculty, and the broader community.
Encourage purposeful parental involvement and partnerships to enhance student learning and school initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge and leadership of secondary curriculum and concepts, current teaching methods, and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
Demonstrated knowledge and application of best practices in administration, program evaluation, and staff supervision.
Knowledge and application of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans based upon data analysis.
Applied knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education,
Ability to develop and implement projects and organize multiple tasks.
Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty, and staff.
Ability to engage in self-reflection and evaluation with regard to leadership, performance, and professional growth.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work
