Town of East Hampton - Planner in the Planning Department - $64,848.99 annually for a 40-hour work week
The Planning Department assists with the implementation of the codes, programs and policies related to long-range plans including land use, zoning, major infrastructure projects, climate adaptation and sustainability, and provides the Town Board and Planning Board with analysis, support and recommendations.
Additionally, the Planning Department notifies the public of land development applications, reviews and decisions, and demonstrates excellent service, technical knowledge and professionalism when assisting project applicants, constituents and members of the public.
The Planner is responsible for assisting the Senior Planner in assembling statistical data map information, collecting data for land use and zoning maps, taking field notes, preparing written evaluations for land use projects, and planning and conducting research on development projects. The incumbent will also assist the public, members of the Planning, Zoning and Architectural Review Boards and Town employees, and must possess good communication skills and demonstrate excellent customer service.
Responsibilities and duties:
- Reviews site plan, sub waiver and subdivision applications, utilizing resources that include the GIS system
- Prepares written evaluations for land use projects and land acquisitions
- Prepares SEQRA documents
- Conducts field work to evaluate land use and environmental site constraints
- Assists the public with planning and zoning inquiries
- Presents projects at Planning Board meetings
- Coordinates projects with the Planning Board, Zoning Board and Architectural Review Board
- Represents the Planning Department at committee meetings
This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, and the annual rate of pay is $64,848.99 with benefits, including paid vacation, enrollment in the New York State and Local Retirement system and health care and dental and vision coverage.
The minimum qualifications for this position are graduation from a college with federally authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Political Science, Economics, Geography, Environmental Studies, Civil Engineering, or a related field; or graduation from a New York State or regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree, and one (1) year of experience in the field of community or regional planning.
NOTE: Additional relevant graduate level education from a New York State or regionally accredited college or university may be substituted for the one (1) year of experience cited in (b).
