Job Title: DK-4 East Oakview Full Time Paraprofessional Special Ed and Gen Ed
Job Summary:
A paraprofessional provides support and assistance to students in an educational setting. They work closely with students helping to reinforce classroom instruction, behavioral expectations, and/or providing individualized attention to students who may require additional support.
Qualifications:
- Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Associate's degree or college coursework in education or a related field, preferred.
- Experience: Prior experience working with children, such as in a daycare, camp, or volunteer setting, is often preferred. Experience in a school environment is advantageous.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for effectively interacting with students, teachers, parents, and other school staff.
- Patience and Empathy: The ability to work patiently with students of different abilities and backgrounds, and to empathize with their challenges, is crucial for building a positive learning environment.
- Organization and Multitasking: Paraprofessionals must be well-organized, able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and adapt to changing needs in the classroom.
- Collaboration: A willingness to work collaboratively with teachers and other educational professionals to support student success is important.
Key Responsibilities:.
- Lunchroom Supervision:
- Supervise students during lunch, ensuring safety and proper behavior.
- Assist students with opening food containers, utensils, or drinks as needed.
- Encourage positive social interactions among students and promote inclusive behavior.
- Monitor and assist with clean-up procedures after lunch.
- Maintain a calm, orderly environment while ensuring that students enjoy their meal.
- Recess Supervision:
- Supervise students during outdoor recess activities to ensure safety and positive behavior.
- Monitor the playground to prevent accidents or incidents.
- Intervene in minor conflicts and guide students in resolving disputes appropriately.
- Encourage physical activity and foster teamwork and cooperation among students.
- Ensure students follow school rules while engaging in recess activities.
- Student Assistance and Guidance:
- Support students with special needs or those requiring additional assistance.
- Provide encouragement and positive reinforcement to students for appropriate behavior.
- Communication and Reporting:
- Report any issues or incidents to the teacher, principal, or other school staff.
- Maintain communication with classroom teachers regarding student behavior and needs during lunch and recess.
- Keep accurate records of student behavior, incidents, or concerns as needed.
- Safety and Emergency Procedures:
- Respond appropriately to any emergency situations that may arise during lunch or recess.
- Follow established school safety protocols in case of accidents or health emergencies.
- Collaboration and Teamwork:
- Collaborate with other paraprofessionals and school staff to ensure smooth operations during lunch and recess.
- Assist in the implementation of school programs related to student well-being and behavior.
- Attend training sessions or meetings as required to improve effectiveness in the role
