Job Summary:
The Clinical System Analyst manages the EMR applications in the areas of ongoing support, staff training, dictionary, maintenance, system enhancements, problem analysis, resolution and troubleshooting. Works with IT Director to coordinate hardware installation, maintain and oversee changes, corrections, and enhancement to the Clinical Systems. Acts as a liaison for department clinical system issues.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain current knowledge base of activities on the Network.
- Participates in and coordinates installations, enhancements and training for EMR, Nursing Systems and ancillary department clinical systems.
- Helps with the maintenance for the dictionaries and master files within the Meditech live and test modes.
- Within the MIS module, will maintain and/or build customer defined screens (CDS) to ease documentation in the PCS within hospital defined guidelines.
- Set-up and/or maintain access within a non-MIS module to meet Department needs, as directed.
- Will maintain confidentiality of the system and will bring any issues of security to the attention of the IS Director.
- Develops and utilizes training manuals and programs to keep the end-users at the highest level of knowledge on the functionality of the system.
- Will provide input regarding menus and reports specific to the systems, or specific modules, within the guidelines and policies of the IS Department.
- Assist, as requested, with the development of policies and procedures relative to the PCS, any ancillary systems used for the hospital.
- Attend monthly meetings for their respective modules as designated by the IS Director.
- As directed, will serve as a contact person for customer support related to resolving hospital specific problems.
- Adds, edits, deletes and removes Meditech users from the system.
- Will serve, as directed by the IS Director on hospital committees to represent nursing or hospital information systems.
- Serve as the Core Team Leader representing Order Entry and Nursing, as assigned by the IS Director.
- Serves as a clinical resource for EMR Order entry and nursing module documentation issues.
- Looks for opportunities to increase system knowledge.
- Records system or hardware malfunctions along with the application program problems on appropriate logs or forms. Follows up on recurring problems.
- Able to take the network systems and bring them back up properly, verifying that proper data flow has been returned.
- Investigates and evaluates computer system problems reporting serious ones to the IT Director.
- Able to properly shutdown and reboot each PC based computer system.
- Able to use system manuals when identifying system problems or error messages.
- Demonstrates and maintains knowledge of Federal, State, Local Laws and CMS/JCAH accreditation standards.
- Supports Patient Satisfaction initiatives.
- Promotes and supports the hospital-wide Continuous Quality Improvement Process using the Plan/Do/Check/Act (PDCA) process.
- Demonstrates and maintains knowledge of emergency codes and emergency preparedness procedures and understands his/her role in response to each emergency code.
- Supports an environment that optimizes patient safety, injury prevention and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors. Reports any unsafe conditions immediately.
- Uses proper body mechanics at all times. Seeks assistance when necessary to move heavy objects.
- Follows standard precautions and transmission-based precautions as demonstrated by consistent use of appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Three years of experience in a hospital setting required.
- Knowledge of Meditech software
- Interpersonal skills necessary to deal with and establish working relationships with physicians, hospital personnel and co-workers.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Healthcare field, Healthcare Management, Health Information Management or Information Science or equivalent experience required.
- Current and valid RN License in the State of Ohio

- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, EMR, nursing and ancillary department clinical systems.
