JOB DESCRIPTION
East Providence Providence Public School District seeks an exceptional SENIOR ARMY INSTRUCTOR to stand-up and operate the new ARMY JROTC Program at the East Providence High School Career and Technical Center. This is an exciting opportunity for JROTC teachers who seek a challenging yet rewarding experience in education.
Under the direction of US Army Cadet Command (in accordance with Cadet Command Regulation 145-2), and that of the East Providence High School Principal and CTC Director, the SAI is the department chairperson and chief instructor of a four-year Army JROTC Program which constitutes Career and Technical Pathway for students who commit. The SAI is responsible for the coordination, logistics, supervision and teaching within the program. The curriculum focuses on citizenship, character, and leadership development with a strong emphasis on keeping students in high school through graduation. Additional emphasis is placed on teaching skills necessary to succeed at the post-secondary education level. JROTC is not a recruiting forum for the military services.

EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Officers who have separated/retired within the past 5 years with a minimum of 10 years cumulative honorable service in the grades of W-1 through W-5 or O-3 through O-6. Actively serving Army National Guard and Army Reserve Officers (TPU/M-Day) will fall under the same requirements mentioned above. In addition, a Letter of Recommendation from their current Reserve Component Commander and current DA Form 5016 or NGB 23A, is required. Roles and Responsibilities- Army Regulation 145-2 and Cadet Command Regulation 145-2 contain specific information pertaining to the roles and responsibilities within the JROTC Program.
Must Possess a current RI Dept. of Ed. Teaching Certificate
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CURRICULAR LINKAGES
● Instructs students (cadets) enrolled in the program utilizing the nationally certified Army JROTC Curriculum.
● Supervises the Army Instructor (Al) who also teaches, coaches, and who has primary responsibility for logistics.
● Mentors cadets in a robust program of JROTC extra-curricular activities which meets Cadet Command requirements, and focuses on the needs of the cadets within the program.
● Implements all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
● Maintains equipment inventory and submits budget requests accurately and in a timely manner.
● Develops and maintains positive and cooperative interactions and communications with administrators, parents, colleagues and the community-at-large.
● Motivates and encourages cadets to develop a sense of mature personal responsibility, skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a foundation for becoming a responsible citizen.
● Engages actively with families and the community in the best interest of the students and program.
● Strongly encourages goal-setting that includes participation in post-secondary education.
● Assist in launching, establishing, and expanding the program.

○ Assisting with startup logistics
○ Participating in initial and ongoing recruiting efforts for the program. ○ Facilitating curriculum, instructional, and Workbased Learning
implementation.
○ Ensuring the Program meets the RIDE CTE Board of Trustees standards for a CTE Program, and assisting in applying for approval.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS STANDARDS
In addition to teaching in the classroom there are a number of extra-curricular activities that will require JROTC instructors to work outside of the regular school hours. An instructor‘s work week could easily exceed 50 hours and may include additional weekend activities.

Salary: Minimum Instructor Pay (MIP) is calculated based on JROTC Standardized Instructor Pay Scale (JSIPS) and a 11 month contract.
The employing school’s physical address will be used to determine which Office of Personnel Management (OPM) GS locality table must be used. Based on the appropriate GS Locality table, the following tables are used to determine an instructor's MIP, for equivalency purposes only.
All Enlisted Instructors to include Warrant Officers who have less than a Bachelor’s Degree, use the enlisted table.
