East Stroudsburg University is hiring a Public Services Librarian! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU’s proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country’s largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun.
As the Public Services Librarian, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable leading your team of access, reference, and instruction service professionals to enrich student learning. You will be an active member of the Kemp Library team and will work closely with the Director to deliver comprehensive instruction to the ESU campus community on departmental resources and functions. You will thrive in this role if you like combining your library science background, and your working knowledge of integrated library systems all while analyzing ongoing data to strengthen departmental workflows. To be successful in this role, you must be collaborative, understand the complex project management life cycle and possess effective supervision skills.
Your normal schedule will be Monday to Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM but you may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true Public Services Librarian. This is a Tenure Track position within the Kemp Library. When our team shows up for work, they are energized and motivated to succeed - all while being the most crucial piece to keeping the ESU operations humming.
What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)
- Coordinates training for library faculty and staff on how to use the library’s resources.
- Provides Research Assistance virtually and in person during assigned hours, and at other times as back up.
- Maintains working knowledge of the library catalog, website, collections, electronic resources, and general operations and facilities.
- Provides instruction to members of the ESU community by teaching online and in person classes on effective use of library resources, citation management tools, and a variety of topics pertaining to scholarly publishing.
- Maintains and enhances LibAnswers knowledgebase, LibGuides content, and other online learning content, generates content for new areas, and offers suggestions to others.
- Delegates responsibilities effectively, empowering staff to make independent decisions at appropriate operational levels.
- Provides leadership for the Access Services department, leads the department management team, and oversees access services functions.
- Creates, maintains, and improves policies, procedures, and best practices governing Access Services.
- Collects and analyzes statistics related to department services and facilities use.
What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications)
- MLS or equivalent from an ALA accredited program.
- At least 2 years of experience configuring, troubleshooting, and managing back-end functionality in an integrated library system, discovery layer, link resolvers, and proxy servers.
- Strong attention to detail; Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Effective time and project management skills with the ability to work independently and as a member of a collaborative team.
- Able to think critically and apply critical thinking skills to solve problems independently; make independent decisions that support the needs of the University and its students.
- Ability to quickly pivot between work tasks when unplanned events occur that need immediate attention.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and adapt to change.
- Able to read, write, and comprehend English; able to follow verbal instructions.
- Experience with Word, Excel, Teams required. LibApps experience is helpful.
