Job Description
Position: Senior Accountant Department: Accounting
Reports To: Controller Location: Lake Worth, FL
FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Summary
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for the daily, monthly and yearly aspects related to inventory accounting.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Monitor and track the inventory general ledger accounting, including the preparation of monthly inventory reconciliations, prepare month end inventory accruals and work closely with the Purchasing and Warehouse operation teams to improve inventory process flow for various locations.
- Develop and monitor, timely and accurate processing of all inventory transactions.
- Coordinate Annual Physical inventories.
- Identify and communicate opportunities for cost reduction, yield improvement, operational efficiency and business process improvements to support financial results and company goals.
- Review, analyze and track Metal in Transit (MIT) and Return to Mill (RTM) transactions.
- Prepare and analyze slow moving and obsolete inventory reports.
- Prepare, review and present financial schedules such as fluxes, month-end reports and other ad hoc schedules, as needed.
- Consolidate, analyze and report consolidated inventory balances by product/site and perform detailed monthly variance analysis.
- Coordinate with the Purchasing and IT departments to discuss and resolve issues in areas such as production, purchasing, accounts payable, receiving and shipping.
- Ad hoc requests from the controller.
- Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should have solid organizational skills and experience with standard costing, variance reporting, month end closing, inventory analysis and production reporting. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, work well as part of a team, be a self-starter and have a passion for their work.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and 5 years of inventory management and standard costing experience.
Experience/Skills/Abilities Required
- Ability to work independently and to know when to ask for help in resolving specific financial issues.
- Must be able to work with all levels of the organization.
- Knowledge of financial accounting principles and concepts in order to perform tasks listed in Essential Duties/Responsibilities above.
- Ability to set and meet deadlines, including strong ability to manage and perform multiple tasks to completion at the same time.
- A problem-solver with attention to detail.
- Knowledge and ability to perform mining of data, analysis and reporting.
- Excellent verbal, written and analytical skills required.
- Highly proficient with Excel.
