General Summary
Coordinate, supervise, and administer comprehensive mental health services to the student-athlete population within the department of intercollegiate athletics.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Administer mental health screenings to student-athletes and provide appropriate follow-up referrals to outside providers or resources, as needed.
- Consult with athletic department staff, families, and other professionals regarding the mental health needs of students.
- Conduct substance abuse assessments following student-athlete positive drug tests and implement treatment plans.
- Intervene in mental health crisis and emergency situations within the department, including after-hours calls.
- Provide mental health services, focused on the psychological and personal development of student-athletes, including individual and group psychotherapy.
- Participate in interdisciplinary teams to determine treatment plans for high-risk student-athletes, including disordered eating cases.
Provide: - Consultation and training sessions for coaches, student-athletes, and other members of the department of intercollegiate athletics.
clinical supervision and training for athletic counseling staff, professional students, and other trainees commensurate with the clinician’s licensure status. - Develop and implement preventative mental health programs for student-athletes, coaches, and other members of the athletic department, as needed.
- Maintain timely and accurate clinical records and provide clinical documentation in the electronic medical system.
- Operate with integrity and adhere to all NCAA, conference, and institutional rules as a leader within the athletics department.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in clinical social work, clinical mental health counseling, college counseling or related field is required.
Five years of experience providing psychotherapy services is required.
Licensed in field or eligible for licensure in the state of Michigan is required.
Must have experience and interest in working with student-athletes, teams, and in a fast-paced athletics environment.
Experience in conducting short-term psychology with a diverse population of students-athletes and staff is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctorate in Counseling or Clinical Psychology is preferred.
Prior experience providing supervision to students and/or professional staff is preferred.
Prior experience providing support services to athletic programs and events is preferred.
