Job Summary
The Assistant Dockmaster shall report directly to the Dockmaster and assist the Dockmaster as directed with the operation and maintenance of waterfront facilities and vessels Will oversee waterfront operations in the Dockmaster’s absence
Job Tasks
General Standards:
This is a private yacht club for the enjoyment of its members and authorized guests, to whom courtesy should be shown at all times. The club and waterfront is expected to be managed in a safe, courteous, professional and efficient manner.
- Assists in the commissioning all waterfront vessels and race committee boats and waterfront related facilities
- Assists in the decommissioning all waterfront vessels and race committee boats and waterfront related facilities
- Must achieve and maintain a valid U.S. Coast Guard launch operators license and be part of a random drug testing program with a zero tolerance policy.
- Weekly maintenance and repairs of waterfront and race committee vessels and related safety equipment as required by the U. S. Coast Guard
- Annual maintenance of all waterfront and race committee vessels.
- Maintaining daily routines and rituals relating to the Eastern Yacht Club waterfront while providing launch service to the membership and direct the Waterfront staff to keep and perform the same.
- Being punctual, arriving to work in proper uniform, and being polite and courteous to the membership of the yacht club
- Storm related preparation of all waterfront vessels and facilities, as well as, repairing any storm related damages
- Assists in the training of waterfront staff to perform assigned tasks.
- Manage Waterfront staff in the maintenance of launch boats through bi weekly fueling and cleaning and daily log checks.
- Must be prepared to work weekends and holidays from spring commissioning until fall decommissioning
- Police the beach with staff including the Pleon pier and parking lots on a regular basis; empty trash cans as needed, pick up any rubbish and debris, check the water hoses and connections for leaks.
- Reinforce any rule offenders to observe the House and Waterfront Rules (No diving off the pier, skateboards etc.).
- Responsible for the correct flag etiquette with respect to the main flagpole/yardarm and launches, as set forth in the official procedures.
- General knowledge of basic plumbing, electric and mechanical problems and ability to effect minor repairs.
- Ability to communicate effectively over VHF.
- Good proficiency in seamanship.
- Ability to obtain Massachusetts 3A Crane License
- Smart personal appearance (Club provided uniform where directed) and a courteous disposition.
- General supervision is under the direction of the Dockmaster. Specific direction is provided by the Waterfront Chairman or the General Manager according to Club requirements
- Directs and maintains the launches in a clean, smart and nautical condition.
- Perform routine maintenance, service and repairs as directed or as deemed necessary.
- Maintain hose reel maintenance log
- Maintain float ring tie up log
- Assist the Race and Sailing Committees as requested
- Direct and manage the dock staff to assist the Race and Sailing Committees in conjunction with the Dockmaster
- Direct and manage the dock staff to keep the Race Committee Vessels (in conjunction with the Dockmaster) in Bristol Fashion.
- Assists the Dockmaster with posting job ads for Licensed Launch Operators and involved with the interview process.
- Work with the Junior sailing staff to train staff on keeping support vessels in general good order.
- Work well with the Sailing Director

Dockmaster and in his absence the GM or Waterfront Chairman
