Timber Pointe is a wonderful and unique resource available to the Central Illinois community. We offer overnight rentals in our cabins and lodges as well as day use for corporate meetings and events. We offer activities and team building exercises for groups. We are also a picture-perfect wedding venue.


Position Objective:

Easterseals’ Timber Pointe Outdoor Center is looking for healthcare heroes to join us in providing life-changing, empowering, and safe camp experiences for individuals of all ability levels at our beautiful 160-acre lakeside property! The Camp Nurse is responsible for overseeing the health and safety of campers and staff and providing health care to meet the individual needs of campers and camp staff. The camper population includes day campers (youth ages 5-17 with or without disabilities), overnight youth campers (ages 7-17 with disabilities and/or challenging illnesses), and adult overnight campers (ages 18 with disabilities and/or challenging illnesses). Timber Pointe Outdoor Center is looking for a Registered Nurse to work Sundays during check in and full week camp sessions.

Employment Dates and Position Pay:

The Sunday Check-in Days:

When working Sunday Check-in days, compensation is an hourly rate of $25.00 - $30.00. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills, and internal equity. The schedule is roughly 2:30pm until 6:30pm. The employment dates are as follows:

  • June 1, 2025
  • June 8, 2025
  • June 22, 2025
  • June 29, 2025
  • July 6, 2025
  • July 13, 2025
  • August 3, 2025

Full week camp sessions:

When working a full week camp session, the compensation is a weekly stipend of $900 - $1,200 per camp session. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills, and internal equity. When working the full week camp session, the Camp Nurse is provided with room/board/meals during their time at camp. The full week camp session dates available:

  • June 29, 2025 - July 7, 2025
  • July 6, 2025 - July 11, 2025
  • July 13, 2025 - July 18, 2025
  • August 3, 2025 - August 8, 2025

Job Functions for Sunday Check-Ins:

  • Screen all campers and staff who are arriving to camp.
  • Verify Health history and examination.
  • Verify emergency authorization.
  • Identify any observable evidence of illness or communicable diseases.
  • Conduct a health assessment.
  • Keep all medications used by campers and staff.
  • Report any health problems or symptoms of illness to the Camp Director.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Functions for Full Camp Sessions:

  • Provide health care to meet the individual needs of camp staff and campers with thoughtfulness, kindness, and respect, administering all treatments and medications to the camp population per prescription requirements or OTC as needed.
  • Collaborate with other staff to meet medical needs.
  • Maintain communication with camper families as needed.
  • Follow healthcare policies/procedures as described in the Healthcare Manual and treatment procedures.
  • Organize, maintain, and utilize adequate resources for serving the health and medical needs of the campers and staff.
  • Set up the camp Health Center.
  • Inventory and order all necessary medical supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records according to state and American Camp Association Standards.
  • Prepare and utilize daily medical logs for treatment and medications.
  • Prepare and record incident and accident report forms.
  • Oversee First Aid procedures and supplies.
  • Prepare and distribute first aid kits throughout camp, including camp vehicles, kitchen, offices, waterfront, activity areas, and out-of-camp trips.
  • Ensure supplies are well stocked and distributed as needed.
  • Screen all campers and staff who are arriving and departing camp.
  • Verify Health history and examination.
  • Verify emergency authorization.
  • Identify any observable evidence of illness or communicable diseases.
  • Conduct a health assessment.
  • Keep all medications used by campers and staff.
  • Supervise sanitary conditions throughout camp.
  • Observe daily cleanliness in the medical wing and other areas throughout the camp.
  • Report any health problems or symptoms of illness to the Camp Director.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Requirements

  • Current state licensure as Registered Nurse / RN.
  • Graduation from an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Associate Degree in Nursing, or Nursing Diploma program.
  • Valid CPR and First aid certification.
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation.
  • Experience in first aid and emergency management.
  • Experience in both children and adult illness/injury care.

Competency Requirements

  • Desire to work with children and young adults.
  • Community health knowledge.
  • Ability to read and follow directions on medication labels, health forms, physician orders, and parent letters.
  • Ability to use telephone and computer.
  • Ability to maintain a written record system.
  • Ability to communicate with parents, staff, and administration about camper health concerns.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Must have visual ability sufficient to read and complete written correspondence, reports, etc., and computer screen information.
  • Regular use of hands to grasp, handle, or feel.
  • Regular standing, walking, sitting, climbing, grabbing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and reaching.
  • Ability to push, pull, lift and/or carry up to fifty (50) pounds or more.
  • Ability to quickly get to remote locations on camp property over uneven terrain (will be provided with a golf cart).
  • Possess endurance to meet emergency needs.

Work Environment

  • Outdoor camp environment with exposure to all types of weather and conditions, including extreme heat, cold, snow, rain, and specific environmental realities (humidity, wind, bugs, lake water, etc.)
  • If staying for a full camp session, reside in a private room.

Prior to applying to Timber Pointe Outdoor Center’s 2025 Summer Team, please be ready to commit to providing the safest camp environment possible. As a camp who serves immunocompromised populations, 2025 Timber Pointe Summer Team members will be required to practice intentional COVID safety and consciousness for the entirety of their summer agreement. All staff will be required to be tested weekly and practice safe hygiene protocols. Masks may be a requirement (for our current weekend camps, all campers/staff/volunteers mask when going through the meal line and when participating in cooking class). While vaccination is not currently required, it is highly recommended.
