What are the responsibilities and job description for the Outpatient Counselor position at Easterseals Northeast Central Florida?
JOB SUMMARY: Work directly with our #MIP: Me, In Progress wellness program for middle and high school-aged students at Edgar’s Farm. The purpose of the #MIP program is to enhance the well-being of teenagers and pre-teens through exploration, connection, and clinical counseling services. By offering a variety of wellness programs students and staff will be encouraged to explore various therapeutic modalities (e.g. yoga, equine-assisted learning, outdoor recreation, art therapy, etc.) while developing genuine connections with their peers. The ultimate goal of #MIP is to equip students with the skills and confidence needed to build resilience so they can thrive in the face of adversity. In addition to conducting traditional 1:1 counseling sessions, this position will conduct group sessions to make mental health services more accessible to our students and foster peer connections.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Conducts individual and group counseling sessions to support individuals in thriving in interpersonal relationships, career exploration, personal development, building resiliency, healthy coping skills, substance abuse prevention, familial/parental conflict, stress management, self-esteem, and other concerns related to mental health and emotional well-being.
· Maintains confidentiality of records relating to client’s treatment (HIPPA)
· Guides clients in the development of skills and strategies to deal with life challenges
· Encourages clients to express their feelings and discuss what is happening in their lives and helps them develop insight into themselves and their relationships.
· Collects information about clients through interviews, observations, and tests. Prepares and maintains treatment records and reports.
· Assessment of symptoms, coping strategies, strengths/challenges, social supports, and mental status examination to facilitate individualization of treatment.
· Develop and implement treatment plans based on client goals and information gathered in the assessment process.
· Acts as a client advocate to coordinate required services, make referrals as appropriate or resolve emergency problems in crises.
· Completes other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
· Master’s Degree in psychology, counseling, or a related field required.
· One (1) year of experience working with the target population (maybe pre-grad or in a non-clinical setting).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
· Excellent interpersonal skills.
· Knowledge of current HIPPA Laws, with the ability to work within all legal and ethical guidelines of practice.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills.
· Computer literacy, basic proficiency in typing, and utilizing EHR with training.
· Proficiency in assessment/interviewing of clients and/or guardians; treatment planning for behavioral and affective disorders; recognition of individual differences in ability, personality, and interests, and a strengths-based wellness approach.
· Ability to assist clients in career exploration options, college preparation, development of new healthy coping strategies, increasing social support, life management skills, and self-regulation.
· Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, cultural diversity and sensitivity, and ability to work with clients from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
· Excellent customer service skills; building and maintaining rapport with clients, guardians, colleagues, and community partners.
· Demonstrates a strong commitment to self-development.
· Positive attitude towards individuals with disabilities and the Easter Seals work environment and philosophy.
· Willingness to be flexible.
· Possess the qualities of integrity, tact, and good judgment.
PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES:
· Able to see, close up, and within a ten-foot area.
· Able to express or exchange ideas, and indicate client progress, by spoken work and in written communication.
· Operate a computer, copier, and fax machines.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
