What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sales and Customer Support Representative position at Eastside Lansing Food Co-op?

Hours: primarily weekend coverage with some weekdays

Purpose: This position includes serving as Cashier, Backend, Floater, and Stocker. This position can also include some light office and receiving duties. Scheduling of these roles is at the discretion of the scheduler. Any role that you are scheduled for, you are expected to work as a team with your coworkers to get all tasks done.

Receives supervision from: Customer Service Lead/Manager and General Manager, Department Managers as needed.

Requirements:

  • Friendly, helpful attitude, with the ability to work cooperatively.
  • Ability to visually examine products for quality and freshness.
  • Available for scheduling that meets the needs of the store.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. throughout shift, occasionally 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and to bend and twist repeatedly.
  • Complete alcohol sales and obtain an alcohol server’s license.

Essential Job Functions:

The essential duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Give every customer excellent customer service. Follow through on all customer questions and requests. Surprise and delight the customers with accurate, polite and enthusiastic service.
  • Assists customers with submitting a special order, customer comment card, or other customer forms.
  • Check out customers in store and process curbside and delivery orders.
  • Follow proper procedures for customer check out, handling of tenders, use of tares, and use of PLUs and UPCs
  • Maintain awareness and acknowledge customers standing in line, calling for backup as needed, or helping the cashier on duty.
  • Be knowledgeable about all products and their location (retail & back stock) in the store.
  • Maintain familiarity with monthly specials, sales, in-store promotions, and programs.
  • Answer telephone calls quickly, with excellent phone etiquette. Direct questions/phone calls to appropriate staff. Take accurate messages if they are unavailable.
  • Be familiar with cooperatives, memberships, and how to properly sign up a member.
  • Maintain a clean, aesthetic and engaging experience throughout the store and outside of the store. Keep all areas you work in well stocked and organized; clean up after yourself.
  • Maintain products – follow FIRST IN FIRST OUT for stocking, check for dates and quality, process loss items, store items properly, communicate with the department managers, etc.
  • Check in orders that come in when buyer is not available to ensure that the product is correct and is stored properly. Stock out as needed if appropriate.
  • Provide excellent internal service to peers and management.
  • Read all communications in a timely manner. Check log and email each shift.
  • Maintain accurate paperwork throughout shift.
  • Complete tasks as outlined in task lists thoroughly and thoughtfully.
  • Cooperate and communicate with co-workers, managers and others important to job responsibilities in a timely and appropriate manner. Report problems to the appropriate staff if you cannot resolve them yourself. Contact appropriate staff immediately for urgent matters.
  • Attend and participate in meetings as required.
  • Be familiar with and follow all Co-op policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Learn and adapt to new procedures and tasks with a positive attitude.
  • Establish appropriate priorities, manage and use time well.
  • Take initiative to use any time not spent in customer transactions productively for the store.
  • Work as a team with other customer service staff to complete all tasks (including those for front end, backend, and stocking shifts).
  • Readily assist in departments throughout the store as needed.
  • Handle job responsibilities in an accurate, thorough and professional manner.
  • Open and close the store following the proper procedures.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by Customer Service Lead/Manager or General Manager.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 - $16.50 per hour
