What are the responsibilities and job description for the Attorney Judicial Law Clerk position at Eaton County?
Full-Time Attorney Judicial Law Clerk at the Eaton County Circuit Court. The position is 40 hours per week, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Monday through Friday.
Under the general supervision of the Circuit Court Judge, researches the law and prepares court opinions, orders, and bench memoranda for the Circuit Court. Serves as bailiff for jury trials and performs general clerk duties related to the office of the Honorable Kelly E. Morton.
The position is available immediately and is approximately for a 12-month period.

- Analyzes pleadings, research issues, draft opinions, orders, and bench memoranda regarding motions, bench trials, and administrative and lower court appeals for the Eaton County Circuit Court and appeals from decisions of the State of Michigan Administrative Agencies.
- Observe courtroom proceedings necessary for preparation of opinions; correspondence with attorneys or litigants on file maintenance and case management; review of current law and changes thereto; maintain a record of all matters under advisement; prepare, organize, and review daily files for court proceedings, including reviewing pleadings, determining when to contact attorneys when problems arise perform Judicial Assistant duties when necessary; and assist other courts during the law clerk’s absence.
- Provide preparation for the jury room, maintain jury security; escorting jurors to and from the courtroom and to lunch when necessary; as well as preserving the integrity of jury deliberation.
- May perform other duties as assigned by the judge.

Salary : $62,795 - $81,640
