Speech Language Pathologist - Per Diem at ECHN
As a Speech Language Pathologist, I provide specialized treatments to patients through evaluation and selection of appropriate therapeutic techniques to improve or restore speech and language functionalities. I take part in interdisciplinary collaboration for community education and oversee the clinical education of students, maintaining high communication standards and adherence to ethical guidelines. My role also includes documentation and coordination of care to ensure optimal patient outcomes across various treatment settings.
Position Summary:
Provides treatments to patients by evaluating the function and selecting and applying appropriate treatments to improve or restore function. Participates in an interdisciplinary approach for inserviceing and community education and in the clinical education of affiliating students. May be responsible for cross-site coverage.
Education/Certification:
Graduate of an accredited program of Speech Language Pathology with a minimum of a Master's degree. Holds or is eligible for current Connecticut license. Eligible for Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Must have a valid driver's license for occasional travel between ECHN business sites.
Competencies:
This position requires an individual with strong English communication skills, both verbal and written. Basic personal computer skills in the use of Windows-based programs such as Word, Outlook, and Excel are required for department functions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Evaluates patients based on departmental standards.
- Conducts and modifies evaluations based on the patient's symptoms, level of activity, and medical status, establishing individualized, appropriate, measurable goals for each patient.
- Treats patients with the appropriate and acceptable therapeutic techniques.
- Administers physical agents (modalities) and manual therapeutic techniques to attain established goals.
- Utilizes effective techniques to assist in normalizing speech and language activity.
- Educates patients/families in home exercise programs and/or functional activities to maximize independent functional activity.
- Determines when a patient has achieved maximal benefit from treatment and recommends discharge if appropriate.
- Documents in accordance with insurance guidelines and adheres to the department's policies and procedures.
- Seeks and fosters interdepartmental communication and communication with the referring physician regarding patient care.
- Accurately and consistently fills out and submits charges daily.
- Adheres to the professional code of ethics established by the ASHA and the facility at all times.
- Performs all duties with proper body mechanics and safety to prevent injuries.
- Supervises at least one affiliated student per year.
- Attends a continuing education course to further/improve treatment techniques.
- Participates in at least one departmental in-service or community in-service.
