Job Summary:
A Speech Language Pathologist at ECHN provides evaluations and treatments to improve patients' speech and language functions. The role includes conducting assessments, developing individualized treatment goals, and supervising students in an interdisciplinary approach for clinical education and community education.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluates patients based on departmental standards.
- Conducts and modifies evaluations based on patient symptoms, level of activity, and medical status.
- Treats patients with appropriate therapeutic techniques.
- Administers physical agents and manual therapeutic techniques to attain established goals.
- Utilizes effective techniques to assist in normalizing speech and language activity.
- Educates patients/families in home exercise programs and/or functional activities.
- Determines when a patient has achieved maximal benefit from treatment and recommends discharge if appropriate.
- Documents patient care in accordance with insurance guidelines and facility policies.
- Fosters interdepartmental communication and communicates with referring physicians regarding patient care.
- Accurately fills out and submits charges daily.
- Maintains professional code of ethics established by ASHA and the facility.
- Performs duties with proper body mechanics and safety precautions.
- Supervises affiliated students and participates in continuing education courses.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited program.
- Current Connecticut license for Speech Language Pathology.
- Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
- Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Basic computer skills in Windows-based programs such as Word, Outlook, and Excel.
