EchoStar has an exciting opportunity for a Vice President Hardware Engineering in our Hughes Network Systems division. The candidate will lead a team of highly technical engineers to develop next generation satellite communication equipment for mobile applications with specific focus on Aeronautical Inflight Communication systems. The position will be located at our headquarters in Germantown, MD.

- Lead and manage the engineering and development teams, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to foster a high-performance culture.
- Develop and execute the overall engineering and development strategy in alignment with the company's goals and objectives.
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement within the engineering and development teams, implementing best practices and staying up to date with industry trends and advancements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, design, and quality assurance, to ensure seamless project execution and delivery.
- Establish and maintain effective project management methodologies, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Oversee the development of hardware and software communication system solutions, ensuring they meet technical specifications, scalability requirements, and regulatory compliance.
- Manage the budget for the engineering and development departments, optimizing resource allocation and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Provide regular reports and updates to the executive team and stakeholders on projects, performance metrics, and key milestones.
- Stay current with emerging communication system and mobility technologies and industry trends, evaluating their potential impact on our business and making recommendations for adoption.
- Responsible for product life cycle (concept, development, integration, qualification, acceptance, delivery, and maintenance)
- Establish and implement the strategic direction of the mobility technology engineering and development initiatives.
- Technical customer interface to ensure timely and cost-effective accomplishment of contractual commitments.
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, computer engineering or related technical field

15 years of experience with a proven track record of successfully leading the development of aeronautical satellite communication user terminal systems including antenna, modem, in cabin servers and wireless access equipment.
- Experience with avionics equipment development process including detail knowledge and experience in FAA qualification/certification and manufacturing process.
- Experience with the development of Electronically Steerable Antenna (ESA) systems including a working knowledge of the basic technology that would enable the ability to manage and direct ESA development projects.
- Experience developing a corporate level roadmap for aeronautical communications products and technologies that addresses market requirements, future technology, and competitive landscape.
- Experience as the technical interface to aeronautical business group to support project proposals, contract negotiations, technical sales support, and external customer interface.
- Experience working with aeronautical communication system customers including direct contact with both airlines, external system integrators and technology partners.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in electrical or computer engineering.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex technical issues and drive innovation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and external partners.
- Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to analyze data, evaluate risks, and make sound judgments.
- Knowledge of hardware systems include baseband, RF, antenna, and electronic packaging technologies.
- Knowledge of both GEO and LEO satellite systems.
You will be eligible to participate in the Executive Incentive Program (EIP). Payments from this program are based on company and individual performance.

Annual Salary: $200,000.00 - $300,000.00
