Technical Director Echocardiography - FT - Day Shift

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS : The work involves managing the Non-Invasive Cardiac Laboratory and supervising technical echocardiography staff in the Center for Cardiovascular Care at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation. The incumbent plans work assignments and schedules, evaluates employee performance and participates in the performance of diagnostic echocardiography procedures. Work is performed under the general direction of the Unit Manager (Cardiac Cath Lab). Supervision is exercised over lower-level technical and ancillary staff. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES :

• Manages the daily operations of the Non-Invasive Cardiac Laboratory;
• Supervises lower-level staff, develops work schedules, assign work assignments and evaluates employee performance;
• Participates in a team oriented, patient focused delivery of care model;
• Assists in obtaining and maintaining accreditation pursuant to the standards and practice articulated by the IAC Echocardiography;
• Performs medically prescribed echocardiography procedures such as transthoracic, transesophageal testing and echocardiography stress test;
• Participates in the development and implementation of departmental goals and objects;
• Maintains budgets for areas of responsibility;
• Directs the operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment;
• Ensures compliance with established laboratory standards of practice by the technical and ancillary staff;
• Obtains diagnostic information for interpretation by a credentialed physician;

Maintains competency, proficiency and continual professional development by attending workshops, seminars, conferences and reading appropriate related books, journals, etc.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS : Thorough knowledge of technical practices, procedures and techniques of echocardiography; thorough knowledge of the science of echocardiography; thorough knowledge of literature sources specific to the field and practice of echocardiography; thorough knowledge of accreditation standards as they relate to echocardiography; ability to perform technical echocardiography work on patients; ability to recognize abnormal echocardiographic information; ability to maintain echocardiography equipment; ability to supervise, plan the work of and evaluate lower-level staff; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with a diverse constituency; sound professional judgment; capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :

Possession of Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) as issued by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) at time of application and maintenance throughout duration of appointment; or :

Possession of Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) credential as issued by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) at time of appointment and maintenance throughout duration of appointment; or :

Possession of Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS) credential as issued by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) at time of appointment and maintenance throughout duration of appointment.

NOTE : Verifiable part-time and / or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
